What you need to get started

To start your roofing and exteriors business, ensure you have the following items configured for your account:

  • Set up business units: Create business units for each division, such as Sales, Installation, Service, and Maintenance if applicable, to streamline workflows and reporting.

  • Review job types: Create relevant job types such as Estimate, Shingle Install, Flat Install, Warranty, and Maintenance that reflect your work. Choose job types that are easy to understand and use.

  • Set up custom forms: Customize forms such as Work Scope, Safety, and others to fit your business needs.

  • Bulk import and export: Import your existing services and materials to your Pricebook.

  • Customize roofing Pricebook Pro: Download Roofing Pricebook Pro, set up vendors, and customize items to fit your needs.

  • Add supplier catalog material variations: Manage roofing materials efficiently by organizing base products and their variants—color, size, or unit of measure—in one place, allowing your team to customize them during estimating and invoicing.

  • Set up Dynamic Pricing: Adjust flat-rate service prices based on factors like after-hours jobs, add-ons, and discounts to optimize margins for roofing projects.

  • Jobsite Supervisor, Crew Lead or Foreman

An employee who performs service and/or sells services or equipment.

Equipment

Items used to complete work (ie. power ladder)

Items installed on a job that can be tracked per location. Equipment age and recommended replacement timeframe are automatically tracked in ServiceTitan.

Tip: Consider using Equipment to track the age of roofs, sidings, or gutters for replacement opportunities or quick color tracking.

Job

Work that is already sold/signed by a customer.

A site visit where work may be sold or completed. Each job will always have a corresponding invoice but it can be 0$ if needed(i.e., a sales visit).

Appointment

Each time an employee visits the job site other than for installation.

A single job site visit as part of a job. Multiple appointments for one job are common, especially in multi-day installs.

Opportunity

When an estimate is provided to the homeowner and not signed right away.

A collection of estimates (or a proposal), managed in the Follow Up module.

Business Unit

A department within a larger division. (i.e. Roofing Sales, Roofing Install or Location A Sales, Location B Sales)

A division of the company, allowing for tracking and reporting. (i.e., Sales, Install, Service, Maintenance)

Project

Production work.

A digital folder for all of the jobs, opportunities, purchase orders, timesheets, and invoices related to sold work. They are tracked by status.

Lead

New opportunity for work

There are three types of leads in ServiceTitan:
