Can't attach a bill to a project after it's reconciled and exported

What you're seeing

You have a bill that was created outside of a project — for example, from the Accounting tab's Bills section — and you need it to show under a project. The bill doesn't appear on the project, and because it has already been reconciled and exported, you can't attach it.

Why this happens

There are 2 common reasons.

Reason 1

Bills attach to a project only when they're created from the project page.

A bill created elsewhere won't show under the project.

Reason 2

A reconciled and exported bill is in a finalized state.

Once a bill has been reconciled and exported, it can't be attached to the project after the fact.

What you can do instead

There's no way to attach the reconciled and exported bill directly. The workaround is to reverse the incorrect bill and recreate it from the project.

1Reverse the bill and recreate it from the project

  1. Create a return against the incorrect bill.

  2. Create a new bill from the project page so it attaches to the project automatically.

Note: Because the original bill was already exported, the return will also move through your normal reconcile and export process, so coordinate with whoever manages your accounting export.

Going forward, create bills from the project page whenever they belong to a project. This avoids the problem entirely.

✓ Done · The new bill appears under the project, and the incorrect bill has been reversed with a return.

Still not working?

If you can't reverse the bill or the new bill won't attach to the project, contact ServiceTitan Technical Support at go.servicetitan.com/ask with:

  • The bill number and the project it should attach to

  • Where the original bill was created (for example, Accounting > Bills)

  • Confirmation that the bill was reconciled and exported

  • What happened when you tried the return-and-recreate workaround
