Before you start: You need the Add adjustment invoice permission to create adjustment invoices. If you don't have it, contact your admin.
What you're seeing
The retainage amount on a project invoice is incorrect. Because the invoice was already exported, you can't change the retainage on it directly.
Why this happens
Reason 1
Exported invoices are locked, so retainage is corrected on an adjustment invoice.
Once an invoice is exported, its details — including retainage — can't be edited on the invoice directly. To correct the retainage, you record the correction on an adjustment invoice instead.
How to fix it
1Create an adjustment invoice that carries the corrected retainage
Search for and go to the invoice.
Create an adjustment invoice. See the linked how-to for the exact steps.
Add a retainage task to the adjustment invoice.
Calculate the correct retainage amount.
Enter the calculated retainage amount in the retainage task.
Save the adjustment invoice.
Note: Correcting retainage through an adjustment invoice updates the project balance and retainage accounting, but the displayed Total on the original exported invoice may not change.
✓ Done · The adjustment invoice records the corrected retainage, and the project's retainage reflects the right amount.
