What's new
Previously, search in the Field Mobile App lived in three separate places: the book job flow, project search, and the calendar. None of them showed a customer's history or contact details, and technicians could only see full records for jobs assigned to them. To answer a question or cover for a teammate, they had to call the office. Now, one search lets technicians find any job, project, customer, or location in your company. With the right permissions, they can open a job that isn't theirs and add notes, attach photos, fill out forms, send the invoice, or mark it complete right from the field.
Workflow comparison — before & after
← Before
✓ After
1.A technician gets a question about a job that isn't assigned to them.
1.The technician taps search from the Home screen or the calendar.
2.They check the calendar or project search, but the job doesn't appear.
2.They type the customer's name, address, or job number. Results show jobs assigned to them first, then other results.
3.They call the office for the customer's details or job history.
3.They narrow the list with filters such as Assigned to me, Customer, Location, Job, or Projects.
4.They wait while the office looks it up and passes the answer back.
4.They open the job and add a note, attach media, or send the invoice.
⚠ Jobs sit idle while the person who could help can't find what they need.
✓ Technicians answer questions and cover for teammates in the field, without a call to the office.

How it works for your industry
Residential Service and Replacement
- A technician finishing a tune-up gets a question about the customer's last repair. They search the address and see the job history on the spot.
- A lead technician covers a sick teammate's last call of the day. They find the job in search, add their notes, and mark it complete.
- A customer asks a field supervisor to send a copy of an invoice. The supervisor searches the customer's name and sends it from the job.
Commercial Service and Replacement
- A technician arrives at a building with several tenants. They search the location to see which jobs and equipment belong to it.
- A service manager needs to close out a job a technician left open. They find it in search and mark it complete from the field.
- A technician is asked about past service on a rooftop unit (RTU). They search the location and review the job history before starting work.
Residential Construction
- A project manager isn't assigned to any job on a remodel. They search the project and add notes to the job from the field.
- A crew lead finds the next phase's job under a project and attaches site photos before the crew arrives.
- A sales manager sends the invoice for a project job that belongs to another crew, without calling the office.
Commercial Construction
- A field supervisor searches a project to find every job tied to it, including ones assigned to other crews.
- A project manager adds a site note to a job they don't own so the next crew sees it.
- A technician fills out a required form on a teammate's job so the work isn't held up.
Roofing and Exteriors
- A roofing crew lead covers a second crew's job across town. They search the address, open the job, and attach photos of the finished roof.
- A sales manager searches the customer's name after an inspection and sends the job's invoice from the field.
- A gutter technician sees the location's full job history before quoting extra work, without being assigned to the original job.
How to prepare
01
Have an administrator reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to have universal search in the Field Mobile App and any prerequisite configurations enabled.
02
Confirm your technicians have Field Mobile App version 25.0 or later.
03
Decide which roles need each new permission, then turn them on in role permissions. Only Search & View My Jobs is on by default.
- Search & View My Jobs (new): Find your own assigned jobs in search. On by default for all roles.
- Search & View All Jobs (new): Find any job in your company, assigned or not. Off by default.
- Search & View My Projects (new): Find projects you're associated with. Off by default.
- Search & View All Projects (new): Find any project. Off by default.
- Search & View Customers & Locations (new): Find any customer or location. Off by default. Record details still follow existing customer and location permissions.
- Take Action on Searched Jobs & Equipment (new): Lets a role act on the jobs it can find, including notes, attachments, forms, invoices, and completing the job. With Search & View Customers & Locations, it also lets a role edit or remove equipment at a location. Off by default. Has no effect on its own.
- Take Action on Project-Associated Jobs (changed): New name for Project-Associated Job Actions. How it works does not change.
04
Align with your field supervisors on when technicians should act on jobs that aren't theirs, such as covering a sick teammate or closing out an open job.
