Overview

Mobile Storage Locations attach directly to a project, giving you clear, real-time visibility into where your inventory is located. This setup streamlines how you consume materials from that location, ensuring accurate and efficient tracking.


Who uses this feature

  • Administrators

  • Primarily benefits Commercial Service and Replacement business types, and Commercial Construction business types

Feature configuration

  • This feature is currently in private preview and available for specific accounts. It is subject to change. If you want to enable this feature for your account, join the waitlist here.

Things to know

  • Only one mobile storage can be assigned to a project at a time.

  • When assigned to a project, mobile storage locations can be found in the Purchasing section of the project record.

Enable mobile storage

To enable mobile storage:

  1. Go to the top toolbar and click SettingsA simple icon representing a settings gear. .

  2. In the side panel, click Inventory>Configuration.

  3. On the Inventory Configuration screen that opens, click Inventory.

  4. Select the Enable mobile storage option.Settings for inventory tracking, highlighting the option to enable mobile storage feature.

    Caution: When selected, you cannot disable this feature.

Create a mobile storage

  1. Go to the top toolbar and click SettingsA simple icon representing a settings gear. .

  2. In the side menu, click Inventory > Inventory Locations.

  3. On the Inventory Location screen that opens, click the Mobile Storages tab, then click Create Mobile Storage.Inventory locations for mobile storage with options to create and edit entries.

  4. On the Create Mobile Storage screen that opens, enter the mobile storage details:

    1. In the Mobile Storage Name field, enter the name you want.

    2. From the Type dropdown, select On-site.

    3. From the Default Warehouse dropdown, select the appropriate warehouse.

    4. From the Stock List Assigned dropdown, select the stock list you want to assign.

    5. Select the Track granular weighted average cost checkbox to track a separate WAC for this mobile storage.

      Note: This option is available only when the On-site type is selected.

The Mobile Storage is now created.

Assign a project to a mobile storage

  1. On the Inventory Locations screen, click the Mobile Storages tab.

  2. Select the mobile storage you want to assign a project to.

  3. Under the Assigned To column, click Edit.

  4. From the dropdown field, select Projects and the project you want to assign to the mobile storage.

  6. If the project is assigned to other mobile storage, a Review Before Reassignment pop-up opens.

    Note: If the project assigned includes open transactions or items on hand, the pop-up displays the transactions and items. If you want to download a spreadsheet of the open transactions and on-hand items, click Download.

  7. If you want to proceed with reassigning the project to the current mobile storage, select the acknowledgement box and click Proceed with Reassignment.Reviewing pending invoice and purchase order before proceeding with reassignment of items.

The project is now a hyperlink and directs you to the project record in a new tab.

View Mobile Storage details

The Mobile Storage details page gives you details for that mobile storage including the mobile storage type, its current assignment, the default warehouse, stock list, and the assignment history.

Assignment history

The Assignment History section shows a chronological log of all changes to the mobile storage's assignment. Use the search bar and filter controls to filter out the list of assignment changes.

View assignment details

Click View Details on an assignment log to open the Assignment details page and view drill-in details for that assignment. Details include the transactions and a list of associated items.

Item List

Click Item List to view a list of associated items for that assignment. Use the search bar to search for a particular item.

Transactions

Click Transactions to view a list of associated transactions and transaction statuses for that assignment. Use the search bar and filter options to search and filter the list of transactions.

Transfer items out of mobile storage

You can transfer an inventory item out of mobile storage into an inventory location from the Assignment details page.

To transfer items out of mobile storage:

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click InventoryA simple icon in the shape of a cube..

  2. In the side menu, click Inventory>Inventory Location.

  3. On the Inventory Location screen that opens, click the Mobile Storages tab.

  4. Click the mobile storage you want to transfer an inventory item from.

  5. In the Assignment History section of the mobile storage details page, click View Details.

  6. On the Assignment details page, click Item List.

  7. Select the items you want to transfer and click Create Transfer.User interface showing item transfer options and inventory details for selected items.

  10. When finished, click Save.
