Error "no available quantity" when bulk serializing inventory

What you're seeing

You're using the Bulk Serialization tool to assign serial numbers to Pricebook items, and you expect the upload to complete. Instead, you get an error that reads "There is no available quantity for that item". The item isn't serialized, and the process won't move forward.

Why this happens

There are 2 common reasons.

Reason 1

The item has no available on-hand quantity at that location.

ServiceTitan requires available on-hand quantity before it can assign serial numbers to an item. Serialization happens per location, so if the item's available quantity at that location is zero or negative, there's nothing for the system to serialize and it blocks the action.

Reason 2

A different item than the one you intended is selected.

In some cases the quantity is fine, but a different item than the one you intended is selected, so the item being serialized isn't the one that holds the available quantity.

Before you start

  • You need inventory permissions to run bulk serialization and to create inventory adjustments. If you don't have them, contact your administrator.

  • Serialization happens per location. Confirm you're working in the location that should hold the stock.

How to fix it

Run these checks in order. Most issues are resolved by Check 1.

1Confirm the item has available quantity

  1. Check the item's available quantity at the location you're serializing.

  2. If the available quantity is zero, you can't serialize the item yet. Wait until you have inventory available, or purchase more inventory.

  3. If the available quantity is negative, create an inventory adjustment to bring the balance positive before serializing.

✓ Done · The item shows a positive available quantity, and the bulk serialization upload completes without the error.

2If Check 1 didn't help, confirm you're serializing the correct item

  1. Double-check that the item you're trying to serialize is the one you intended.

  2. Confirm the Pricebook code on your upload matches the item that actually holds the available quantity.

✓ Done · The correct item is selected and the upload completes without the error.
