How do I make a report for my most returned inventory items?

Problem

You need to create a report showing the top 10 most returned items but are encountering incomplete or inaccurate data in your results.

Solution

Workflow Summary

Use the Inventory Line Items or Purchasing Line Items report template and sort by Quantity Returned. Remove filters to ensure complete data.

Create custom report

  1. Go to Reports in the main navigation menu.

  2. On the Reports screen that opens, click Create Report.

  3. Under Choose report type, select Purchasing & Inventory.

  4. Under Select a report template, select either Inventory Line Items or Purchasing Line Items, depending on your account setup.

  5. In the Columns to be displayed in the report section, add the Quantity Returned column.

  6. Add or remove additional columns from your report, then click Next

  7. Give the report a name, select the category where the report displays on the main Reports screen, and provide an optional description for the report.

  8. When you're finished, click Save

  9. On the report screen that opens, set the following filters:

    1. Set the Date Type filter to Date Returned

    2. Set the Transaction Type filter to Return

    3. Set additional filters based on the information you want returned in your report.

  10. When you’re finished setting filters, click Run Report

  11. The report runs, listing all returns in a table. 

  12. Click on the Quantity Returned column twice to sort the column in descending order. This shows the highest returns first.

  13. Review the report to confirm all return data appears complete.

  14. If no items are displayed or the quantity appears low, you can do the following:

    1. Check that no active filters are applied to your report

    2. Remove any filters that might limit your data results.
