What should I do when I receive an "Action cancelled Membership duration/billing is required" message while trying to book an estimate?

Problem

When trying to book a job from an estimate, you get the message Action cancelled Membership duration/billing is required.

Solution

This error happens when a service item is first added to an estimate with the Do Nothing workflow, but later the workflow is changed to a membership related one—before booking the job from the estimate.

To fix the Action cancelled: Membership duration/billing is required error and successfully book the job, choose one of the following two solutions:

Change the item workflow in Pricebook

If the service should originally have the Do Nothing workflow setup in pricebook, then you should follow these steps:

  1. Open the estimate you are trying to book.

  2. Find the service item causing the issue. Click on the More.

  3. Select Edit the item.        

    Note: You need to do the steps 2 and 3 for each service item until you find the error.

  4. Once you find the service item that is causing the error, from the More menu click Delete item. This will remove the item from the estimate.

  5. Go to Pricebook.

  6. Find the task you just deleted and edit the task.

  7. Go to the Workflow Section.

  8. Change the workflow setting to Do nothing and click Save.

  9. Go back to the estimate and re-add the task you just edited.

  10. Make sure the price of the task matches the original estimate amount.

  11. Try to book the job again with the updated estimate.

Update the item details on the estimate

If the item is a membership sale or renewal task, you can fix errors from the estimate page by selecting a billing and duration option. Follow these steps to select a membership duration & billing:

  1. Open the estimate you are trying to book.

  2. Find the service item causing the issue. Click on the More.

  3. Select Edit the item.        

    Note: You need to do the steps 2 and 3 for each service item until you find the error.

  4. In the pop up window of that item, you will see the message Unselected Sections

  5. Please select a duration and billing combination to save changes!

  6. Go to the bottom of that window screen to find the Membership section.

  7. From the dropdown, choose the duration & billing for the membership item.
