Set up and use mobile storage

Overview

Adding mobile storage locations helps you manage materials and equipment that move from truck to truck, and are occasionally replenished in a warehouse.


Who uses this feature

  • Administrators and office employees

Things to know

  • Requires the Inventory module to be enabled

  • Once you enable mobile storage you cannot disable it

Enable mobile storage

Note: As of May 27, 2024, this feature is only available in Early Access.

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Settings .

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory or Purchasing > Configuration.A cursor clicking the Inventory tab on the Inventory Configuration screen.

  3. Click on the Inventory tab.

  4. Check the box next to Enable Mobile Storage.

  5. When finished, click Save.

Add mobile storage

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Settings.

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory or Purchasing > Inventory Locations.

  3. Click the Mobile Storage tab.

  4. Click Create Mobile Storage.

  5. In the Create a New Mobile Storage Location screen that opens, enter the Name, Default Warehouse, and Inventory Template it is associated with.

  6. If you'd like to turn on auto counts, select Create Inventory Count whenever this Mobile Storage returns to its Default Warehouse.

  7. When finished, click Save.

Edit mobile storage

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Settings.

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory or Purchasing > Inventory Locations.

  3. Click on the Mobile Storage tab.

  4. Click Edit next to the mobile storage that you want to change.A cursor clicking Edit next to the mobile storage to change.

  5. Update the information as you need.

  6. When finished, click Save.

Assign mobile storage to a truck

  1. Go to the navigation bar, and click on Inventory.

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory Locations.

  3. Click on the Mobile Storage tab.

  4. Find the mobile storage location you'd like to assign and click on the dropdown in the Current Location column.A cursor selecting a mobile storage location.

  5. On the dropdown that opens, make sure the selector is toggled to Truck. Select the truck from the list and click Saveto assign it.A cursor selecting the truck from the list.

  6. If items are missing or low on stock, a warning pop-up appears. Click Assign Location if you'd like to assign it regardless of the warning.A cursor clicking Assign Location on the pop-up window.

  7. If an item is used on a job and it is not available in the truck, it will be consumed from the assigned mobile storage location. Items consumed from mobile storage locations can be replenished using transfers.

Return mobile storage to a warehouse

  1. Go to the navigation bar, click on Inventory.

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory Locations.

  3. Click on the Mobile Storage tab.

  4. Find the mobile storage location you'd like to assign and click on the dropdown in the Current Location column.A cursor selecting mobile storage location.

  5. On the dropdown that opens, make sure the selector is toggled to Warehouse. Select the warehouse from the list and click Saveto assign it.A cursor selecting the warehouse from the list.

  6. If the warehouse selected is the default warehouse of the mobile storage location and auto counts were turned on when adding the mobile storage location, a count will be generated.

View items and history of a mobile storage location

  1. Go to the navigation bar, click on Inventory.

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory Locations.

  3. Click on the Mobile Storage tab.

  4. Find the mobile storage location you'd like to view and click on the Mobile Storage Name.

  5. On the mobile storage details page that opens, view items and quantities in the Item List tab.Image showing the mobile storage details screen.
