Memberships

Customizable membership makes it easy to manage customer memberships, offering discounts on materials and services. With options like deferred revenue and two payment methods — upfront or recurring — you can tailor memberships to fit your business needs and boost customer satisfaction.

Setup

Customizable Memberships lets you create flexible membership types with discounts, recurring services, and billing options — including deferred revenue. Account configuration is required; contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Technical Support for details.

Setup permissions

Make sure to setup membership permissions for your office employees and technicians, including Edit membership type, Edit customer membership, and Sell or renew a membership.

Setup tasks

Setup the sale and renewal tasks for your membership in your pricebook.

Configure items

Setup and configure your pricebook items to align with the membership type.

Account configuration required

Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Technical Support to enable Memberships on your account.

Once setup is complete

Create membership types, sell and renew memberships from office or mobile, schedule recurring service events, and process billing automatically.

Quick Start Guide — Memberships

After you setup the sale/renewal tasks and configure your pricebook items, you can now create your membership and recurring service types.

Create Membership Types

To get started, create a new membership type — the basic template for a membership you sell to customers. Go to Settings > Invoicing > Membership Types, then click Create Membership Type. Fill out 4 sections:

Step 1 — Basic information: Set the membership name, tags, duration (Ongoing or Fixed), billing frequency, discounts, and service locations.

Step 2 — Billing information: Set prices, configure the New Sale Task, Renewal Task, and Billing Template (the pricebook service item used to invoice customers on their billing frequency).

Step 3 — Recurrences: Add Recurring Services (existing or new service types) and configure Revenue Recognition. If you use accrual accounting, see Set up Deferred Revenue.

Step 4 — Summary: Review all membership type details. For more, see Create membership types.

Advanced Setup

Step 1 — Choose the membership billing option: Bill the customer upfront, or bill monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annually. For an overview, see Membership accounting options.

Step 2 — Choose the revenue recognition option: Recognize revenue at point of sale or as deferred revenue. For more, see Set up Deferred Revenue.
