Use multiple devices on the same job with Primary Sign-In to stay productive in the field

Prev Next

This improvement to the Field Mobile App sign-in experience lets technicians stay logged in on a phone and a tablet at the same time, so they can move between devices mid-job without losing their place.

What's changing?

Previously, signing in to the Field Mobile App on a second device automatically signed you out of the first. Technicians who carry both a phone and a tablet had to choose one device per session, which interrupted natural on-site workflows like snapping photos on a phone and then presenting an estimate on a tablet. With this improvement, technicians using the Primary Sign-In flow can now stay logged in on both a phone and a tablet simultaneously. Jobs, schedules, and data stay in sync across both devices. The Primary Sign-In flow also brings enhanced security, including short-lived session tokens, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) support, and instant account-level session controls that protect your business if a device is ever lost or compromised.

Resources

Before and After

Before (Current)

  1. A technician arrives at a job site carrying a phone and a tablet.

  2. They sign in to the Field Mobile App on their phone to photograph damage in a crawl space.

  3. When they return to the truck and want to present an estimate on the tablet, they sign in to the Field Mobile App on the tablet.

  4. The Field Mobile App automatically signs them out of the phone.

  5. If they need to capture more photos, they must sign back in on the phone, which signs them out of the tablet.

Impact: Technicians lose time re-signing in every time they switch devices, and risk losing unsaved work during forced sign-outs.

After

  1. A technician arrives at a job site carrying a phone and a tablet. Both devices are already signed in to the Field Mobile App through Primary Sign-In.

  2. They use their phone to photograph damage in a crawl space.

  3. Back at the truck, they pick up the tablet and present the estimate to the homeowner on the larger screen. No sign-in is needed.

  4. If they need to capture more photos, they pick up the phone and continue. Both devices remain signed in throughout the job.

Impact: Technicians move freely between devices without interruption, so they can use the right tool for each task and keep the job moving forward.

How it works for your industry

Residential Service and Replacement

  • A plumber inspects a pipe failure under a house, photographs the damage on their phone, then walks back to present the estimate on a tablet. Both devices stay signed in throughout the job.

  • An HVAC technician uses their phone to capture the serial number on a rooftop unit, then switches to the tablet to review the job scope and collect the homeowner's signature.

  • A sales representative presents and sells an estimate on a tablet. They then open the Field Mobile App on their phone to collect payment via Tap to Pay. There's no additional sign-in required.

Commercial Service and Replacement

  • An electrician checks panels across a large facility, logging findings on their phone at each location. At the end of the walk-through, they use the tablet to review the full job scope with the facilities manager.

  • An HVAC technician documents rooftop unit conditions on their phone, then presents repair options and collects approval on the tablet at the ground-floor office.

  • A plumber inspecting a multi-floor commercial building captures photos on their phone while navigating tight mechanical rooms, then reviews the completed forms on the tablet before leaving.

Residential Construction

  • An installer takes progress photos of ductwork on their phone in an attic, then reviews the project plan and checks off tasks on the tablet at the staging area.

  • A technician documents rough-in work on their phone, then uses the tablet to pull up blueprints and confirm specifications before proceeding.

  • A crew lead captures pre-work photos on a phone, then uses the tablet to present a change order to the homeowner for approval.

Commercial Construction

  • A technician working across multiple areas of a job site uses their phone to log equipment installations, then returns to the on-site trailer to review project invoices on the tablet.

  • An electrician photographs junction box wiring on their phone while working overhead, then uses the tablet at ground level to present the final walkthrough checklist to the building manager.

  • A project lead captures daily progress photos on a phone throughout the site, then uses the tablet in the office to review timekeeping entries and sign off on the day's work.

How to prepare

  1. Confirm your technicians use Primary Sign-In. Multiple device login is available only through the Primary Sign-In flow. Technicians still using the legacy login will need to switch. On the Field Mobile App sign-in screen, they should tap Sign in with ServiceTitan to use Primary Sign-In.

  2. Communicate the change to your field teams. Let technicians know they can now stay signed in on both a phone and a tablet at the same time. Encourage them to keep both devices signed in and ready to use.

  3. Bookmark any knowledge base articles or Academy videos for team training.
