Simple Timekeeping is a new timekeeping mode in the Field Mobile App that gives technicians a minimal Clock In, Clock Out, and Meal Break experience while allowing different timekeeping modes to run side by side in the same business unit.
What's new?
Until now, the Field Mobile App required every technician to use the same timekeeping flow. Tenants that needed a mix of detailed activity tracking for some technicians and simple clock in and clock out for others had no way to support both.
With Simple Timekeeping, administrators can now assign a Simple timekeeping mode to individual technicians. Technicians configured for Simple mode see a streamlined experience: one-tap Clock In, Start Meal, End Meal, and Clock Out. The app routes each technician to the correct flow based on their assigned mode, so Simple, Continuous, Manual, and no timekeeping can all coexist in the same company without affecting one another. All clock events persist GPS data and work offline, syncing automatically when connectivity returns.
Before and After
Before (Current)
An administrator sets up timekeeping for their business in ServiceTitan.
Every technician uses the same timekeeping flow, regardless of their individual needs.
A technician who only needs a simple clock in and clock out must use the full activity-based timekeeping flow instead.
Timekeeping entries often require corrections because the workflow does not match the technician's job type.
Impact: Forced into a single timekeeping mode, some technicians log incomplete or incorrect time entries, creating extra work for payroll teams.
After
An administrator opens Timekeeping Settings in ServiceTitan and assigns the Simple mode to technicians who need a streamlined flow.
After refreshing the Field Mobile App, the technician sees the Simple Timekeeping interface: Clock In, Start Meal, End Meal, and Clock Out.
The technician taps Clock In to start the day. During lunch, they tap Start Meal and End Meal to record the break. At the end of the shift, they tap Clock Out.
Other technicians continue using their existing timekeeping mode with no changes to their workflow.
Impact: Each technician uses the timekeeping flow that fits their role, reducing incorrect entries and payroll corrections.

How it works for your industry
Residential Service and Replacement
An HVAC company has a mix of technicians: some track detailed activities throughout the day, and others just need to clock in and out. The administrator assigns Simple Timekeeping to the clock-in-only technicians while keeping the existing mode for the rest. Both groups use the Field Mobile App with no disruption.
A plumbing technician who runs five short service calls per day starts their morning by tapping Clock In on the Time tab. They tap Start Meal at lunch, End Meal after, and Clock Out at the end of the shift. No additional activity entries are needed.
A residential service manager reviews payroll and finds fewer timekeeping corrections because each technician is now using the flow that matches their role. Technicians who only need simple tracking are no longer making mistakes in the full activity-based flow.
Commercial Service and Replacement
A commercial HVAC contractor runs preventive maintenance crews alongside emergency service technicians. PM crews track detailed activities, while emergency techs need a fast clock in and clock out. The administrator assigns Simple Timekeeping to the emergency techs and leaves the PM crew on their existing mode.
A plumbing technician services a restaurant and clocks in from the parking lot. They have no cell signal inside the kitchen, but the Field Mobile App stores the clock-in event and syncs it when they step outside later. The timesheet is accurate without any manual corrections.
A commercial operations manager migrates their tenant from legacy timekeeping to Flexible Timekeeping without disrupting the field team. Technicians who need simple tracking get the Simple mode; others keep their current flow. The migration happens gradually, one technician at a time.
How to prepare
Have an administrator reach out to Support or your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to have Simple Timekeeping and any prerequisite configurations enabled.
Review your technician roster and identify which technicians should use the Simple mode versus the existing timekeeping flow.
In Timekeeping Settings, assign the Simple mode to the appropriate technicians. Confirm each technician has the "Allow Clock In/Clock Out" permission enabled.
Inform technicians assigned to Simple mode that their timekeeping screen will change after their next app session refresh. Walk them through the Clock In, Start Meal, End Meal, and Clock Out workflow.
