Describe your audience in plain language with the Segment Assistant

The Segment Assistant is a new feature in Marketing Pro v2 that turns a plain-language description of the audience you want into the segment builder's own inclusion and exclusion filters, so you can build a targeted segment without translating your goal into conditional logic yourself.

What's new

Building a Marketing Pro segment today means adding every filter by hand. You choose an attribute, choose an operator, choose a value, and combine the results with And and Or across an inclusion group and an exclusion group. That takes working knowledge of how ServiceTitan entities relate to each other and how criteria are interpreted, and a small misreading quietly changes who ends up in the audience. With the Segment Assistant, you describe the audience you want in a sentence instead. The Assistant reads your description, fills in the inclusion and exclusion filters it maps to, marks any value it had to assume, and shows you the reach before you save. Your filters stay fully editable, and nothing is saved until you click Save.

1.Go to the navigation bar and click Marketing, then in the side menu go to Audiences > Retention Segments.
1.Go to the navigation bar and click Marketing, then in the side menu go to Audiences > Retention Segments and click Create Segment.
2.Click Create Segment, enter a segment name, then click Create.
2.Describe the audience you want in plain language, for example, everyone with a Gold membership expiring in the next 90 days who has no job already scheduled in the next 30 days.
3.In the Segment Inclusion Group, click Add Filter, then click Select Attributes and choose between attributes about someone and attributes about something.
3.Review the filters the Segment Assistant proposes in the Segment Inclusion Group and the Segment Exclusion Group, along with the reach count shown alongside them.
4.Add each filter by hand, combining criteria with + And and + Or, then repeat the process in the Segment Exclusion Group.
4.Check any filter marked as an assumption, then type a correction in your own words for anything that is wrong. Correcting one filter leaves the rest untouched and recalculates the reach.
5.Click Save to store the criteria and calculate the reach.
5.Click Save.
⚠ Building a segment calls for working knowledge of ServiceTitan entities, the relationships between them, and the logic that governs how criteria are read. A small misunderstanding in any of those areas changes who ends up in the audience, and nothing flags it for you.
✓ You state the audience you have in mind and read back a set of filters you can check, rather than translating a business goal into conditional logic before you can start. Anything the Segment Assistant had to guess is called out, so the parts worth checking are the parts it tells you to check.

How it works for your industry

Residential Service and Replacement
  • A marketing manager preparing a maintenance campaign describes homeowners with aging heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and no membership, and checks the proposed inclusion and exclusion filters against what was intended.
  • A business owner running a membership renewal campaign asks for members whose agreement ends in the next 90 days, excluding anyone with a job already on the schedule, and sees the reach before the segment is saved.
  • An office manager following up on unsold estimates describes the audience in a sentence, then corrects the single date filter the Segment Assistant assumed, leaving every other filter in place.
Commercial Service and Replacement
  • A facilities account manager describes an audience of accounts whose service agreements expire in the next quarter and that have no visit already booked, and reviews the proposed filters before saving rather than assembling the agreement and visit criteria by hand.
  • An operations manager building a renewal push asks for accounts with more than one property that have not been contacted in the last 60 days, and corrects the one filter the Segment Assistant flagged as an assumption instead of rebuilding the group.
  • A marketing manager targeting dormant commercial accounts describes the audience once, reads the reach count, then tightens the description and reads the new count, without having to know which entity carries the field being filtered on.

How to prepare

01
Confirm your account has Marketing Pro v2. To get started with Marketing Pro, request a demo on the ServiceTitan Pro Products pricing screen, see the Marketing Pro product screen, or reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Pro Account Manager (PAM).
02
Have an administrator reach out to Support or your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to have the Segment Assistant and any prerequisite configurations enabled.
03
Identify the segments your team rebuilds most often, and the ones that have produced the wrong reach in the past. Those are the strongest first tests of a described audience against a hand-built one.
04
Train your marketing team to read the filters the Segment Assistant proposes before saving, and to correct an assumed filter in plain language rather than rebuilding the segment.
05
Bookmark any knowledge base articles or Academy videos for team training.
