Timesheet Exception: Early Clock In reportLast updated on 09/09/2022

Use the Early Clock In report to quickly identify early clock in timesheet events so you can fix mistakes and coach your team on proper time clock use. You can also schedule the report so you’re notified of any early timesheet activity on a regular basis.


Run report

Before running your report, set filters to get the most relevant information for your needs:

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Reports.

  2. In the side menu, click All Reports

  3. Click Timesheet Exception: Early Clock In to open it. Tip: In the search field, enter a few letters from the report title for quick access.

  4. Click the From - To field to set a range of dates to run the report on. You can:

    • Use the calendar to select a specific date range and click Apply. 

    • Use the left menu to select a preset date range:

      1. Today—From 12:00 AM to the current time

      2. Yesterday—Previous day, from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM

      3. Last 7 Days—Previous seven days, including the current date

      4. Last 14 Days—Previous 14 days, including the current date

      5. Last 30 Days—Previous 30 days, including the current date

      6. Month to Date—From the first of the current month to the current day

      7. Last Month—Entire month before the current month. For example, if the date is February 5, the entire month of January.

      8. Last 90 Days—Previous 90 days, including the current date

      9. This Quarter—Current quarter, including future dates. For example, if the date is April 25, from April 1 - June 30.

      10. Last Quarter—Entire quarter before the current quarter. For example, if the date is April 25, from January 1 - March 31.

      11. Quarter to Date—From the first day of the current quarter to the current day

      12. Year to Date—From January 1 of the current year to the current day

      13. Last 365 Days—Previous 365 days, including the current date

  5. In the Business Unit dropdown, select the employee business units (BUs) you want to report on. Note: By default, the report runs for all BUs. You can filter your report by business units or business unit categories: 

    • Click the Employee Business Unit dropdown to select individual BUs.

    • To report on BU categories, click Filter icon-filter.png, select the BU categories you want to include and click Filter.

  6. From the Employees dropdown, select which employees you want to include in the report. Note: If you add BU filters, make sure the employees you select are in the filtered BUs.

  7. When you’re done setting your filters, click Run Report.


Read report results

By default, the report lists any timesheet events that occur before 8:00 AM. The report includes the following columns:

  • Name—Name of the employee

  • Business Unit—BU assigned to the employee

  • Timesheet Activity Date—Date of the timesheet event

  • Timesheet Activity—Timesheet event type

  • Paid Event (Y/N)—Whether the timesheet event is paid or not

  • Start Time—Time the employee clocked into the activity

  • End Time—Time the employee clocked out of the activity

  • Duration (Decimal)—Duration in hours of the activity


Change the early clock in time

You can change the early clock in time for your report. For example, if your business has early hours, you can filter for clock in events that occur before 6:00 AM.

To change the early clock in filter:

  1. Click the highlighted Filter icon in the Start Time column header. The Filter dropdown opens.

  2. In the Is before field, enter the new start time you want to filter for.

  3. Click Filter.

  4. Click Run Report to view results with the new start time. Click Save Changes to use this start time the next time you run the report.


Customize and schedule the report

For further customization, you can also arrange and filter your results.

You can also schedule the report to be delivered by email on a regular basis.
