Overview
Chemical Tracking extends Pricebook Product Types to capture what technicians log for every regulated chemical application. Creating a Product Type with Chemical Tracking enabled automatically adds attributes for dilution and solution reporting. Add product families and any extra attributes for state or internal requirements. Technicians then see only the fields relevant to their Job.

Things to know
Creating a Product Type while Chemical Tracking is on automatically adds four required attributes: Dilution, Lot Number, Solution Applied, and Solution Unit of Measure.
ServiceTitan preloads the required tracking fields, not the values inside them. Every dropdown attribute starts with an empty option list, so technicians see nothing to select in the Field Mobile App until an administrator adds the actual choices in the Pricebook.
Product Families inherit all attributes from their parent Product Type.
A material must be marked Chemical, and linked to a chemical Product Type and Product Family, before it can carry an EPA Number and active ingredient information.
If a chemical is purchased in one unit but applied in another, for example, purchased by the gallon and applied in ounces per gallon of water, set up a unit of measure conversion so technicians report the dilution in the unit they actually use.
This feature reuses the same Product Types framework built for flat glass, so the setup screens and terms will look familiar if your team has already configured glass product families.
Best practices
Create a broad Product Type first (for example, Pest Chemical) before defining specific families (for example, General Pest Control, Rodents and Wildlife, Termites and WDO).
Populate every dropdown attribute's options before rolling the product type out to the field, an empty list means nothing for the technician to select.
Scope option lists to what the business actually treats or applies, so technicians spend less time scrolling on the job.
Add additional attributes as needed to capture mandatory reporting data for your state or internal SOPs.
Set up unit of measure conversions before technicians start logging applications, so dilution mix ratios are captured in the unit they actually use.
Use cases
A Pest Control administrator creates a Pest Chemical product type, adds a General Pest family, and adds a Target Pest dropdown scoped to Ants, Roaches, Spiders, and Bed Bugs.
A Lawn Care administrator sets up a chemical material purchased in gallons but applied in ounces per gallon of water, so technicians report the mix ratio they actually use.
Step 1: Create a chemical product type
Define the high-level category for your chemical products so the required tracking attributes are added automatically:
Go to the navigation bar and click Pricebook > Product Types.
On the Product Types screen, click + Add Chemical Product Type.

Enter a name for the product type (for example, Pest Chemical) and save it.
Because Chemical Tracking is enabled on the account, ServiceTitan automatically adds four required attributes: Dilution, Lot Number, Solution Applied, and Solution Unit of Measure, to the new product type.

Note: These four attributes enable lot tracking if desired and support the automatic dilution mix ratio calculation for chemical quantity reporting. Add additional attributes required for your specific chemical reporting needs on a product family instead of here.
Step 2: Set up product families, attributes, and options
Create the specific categories technicians will select on the job, and add any attributes beyond the required four:
On the product type's screen, click + Add Product Family and enter a name (for example, General Pest Control or Termites and WDO). Repeat for each family you need.

Select a family to review its inherited attributes.

Note: The four required attributes are inherited and locked on for every chemical product family. You can't disable them.
To add a family-specific detail, click + Add entry under Attributes, enter the attribute name, and choose a Display type: Dropdown, Numeric, or Free Text.
If you choose Dropdown, click + Add entry under Options and enter each choice you want technicians to see (for example, Ants, Roaches, Spiders, Bed Bugs).

Tip: This list is empty by default. Nothing appears for the technician to select until you add these options yourself.
Repeat steps 3–4 for any other attribute you want (for example, a Treatment Area dropdown with Upstairs and Downstairs), and for each additional family.
Drag and drop attributes into the order you want them to appear on the field workflow.
When finished, click Save.
Step 3: Link a chemical material to a product type
Connect the actual chemicals your business stocks and applies to the product type and family you set up:
Go to Pricebook > Materials and add a new material, or edit an existing one.
On the Details tab, select the Product Type and Product Family you created (for example, Pest Chemical > General Pest Control).
Select the Chemical checkbox. This adds the EPA Number and Active ingredient(s) fields.
Enter the material's EPA Number and active ingredient(s).

Confirm the Product Type and Product Family selections, and set the material's purchasing Unit of Measure (for example, Gal).

Click Save.
Step 4: Set up a unit of measure conversion for dilution reporting
Set this up when a chemical is purchased in one unit but applied in another, for example, purchased by the gallon and applied in ounces per gallon of water:
From the material, go to Inventory Settings and open the Unit of Measure.
In the setup wizard, confirm the Define Current Unit of Measurement step. This shows the item name and its current purchasing unit (for example, Gal).
Under Define New Base Unit of Measure, select Set a new base unit of measurement and enter the conversion (for example, 1 Gal = 64 Oz).

If the item already has stock or transaction history, ServiceTitan converts it to the new base unit automatically. Select a Business Unit for the adjustment export, then continue through the review step and click Activate.
Once activated, the material's Base Unit of Measure reflects the new unit (for example, Oz).

Note: Whatever number a technician enters for dilution in the field is reported in this base unit, per unit of the mixed solution.
Import, export, or duplicate a product type
Product Types, including chemical ones, support the same import, export, and duplicate actions as any other Pricebook Product Type. Use this to move a setup between tenants or back up a configuration:
Go to Pricebook > Product Types.
To export a setup, find the product type, click the Actions menu, then click Export. This downloads the product type - including its families, attributes, and options - as a JSON file.

To bring that setup into another tenant, or reuse it in the same one, click Import at the top of the Product Types screen, choose the JSON file, and click Import.

Note: Importing a product type always creates a new product type. It does not update or overwrite an existing one, even if the imported file has the same name. If the name already exists, ServiceTitan appends a number (for example, "Pest Chemical (2)").
If you click into an existing product type, its Actions dropdown also offers Import from Template, Export as Template, Duplicate, and Deactivate / Activate.
