Overview

Requests for information (RFIs) are used to document and clarify issues or discrepancies throughout the project life cycle. Streamline communication by capturing RFIs while on the job site and submitting them to the office for review. Accurate and timely RFIs help to resolve disputes or claims that may arise during or after construction.

Things to know

  • You must be online to capture and submit RFIs in the Field Mobile App.

Best practices

  • Identify the need for an RFI early and flag issues as soon as they arise. Whether it's a design conflict, missing information, unclear specifications, or unforeseen site condition.

  • Don't wait until work is blocked. Early escalation gives the office more time to respond without impacting the schedule.

Use cases

  • Ask for clarification on any discrepancies encountered in the drawings or specifications while on the job site.

  • Resolve conflicting information between different project documents

  • Request material substitutions for a project.

  • Coordinate between trades to ensure work from different subcontractors fit together without any rework.

Create and send a new RFI on a project in the Field Mobile App

  1. Open your current job and tap the project link at the top. Job details for ductwork at Sunset Plaza High School, scheduled for June 29.

  2. On the project that opens, scroll to the RFIs section and tap Expand Job details for Sunset Plaza High School, including status and document sections.

  3. On the RFIs screen that opens, tap Add Overview of RFIs showing total, high priority, and overdue items with details.

  4. On the screen that opens, enter the following details:

    • Subject: A few words that describe the request.

    • Question: A more detailed description of the request.

    • Due Date: The date you need the request completed by the office.

    • Priority: The priority level of the request: High, Medium, or Low.

    • Schedule Impact: Whether the request will impact the project schedule: Yes, No, or Maybe.

    • Cost Impact: Whether the request will impact the project cost: Yes, No, or Maybe.

  5. If applicable, tap Add under Attachments and upload relevant media. Form for creating a Request for Information with various input fields and options.

  6. When finished, tap Save.

After you tap Save, the RFI is sent to the office for review.

View and edit existing RFIs on a project in the Field Mobile App

  1. On the RFIs screen, tap an RFI to open it. Overview of RFIs showing high priority and overdue items with a hand pointer.

  2. On the RFI that opens, tap Edit to make changes. Document detailing duct sizing clarification and airflow calculations for HVAC systems.

  3. On the screen that opens, make the necessary changes then tap SaveForm for editing RFI with details on duct sizing and impacts.

After you tap Save, the RFI is sent to the office for review.
