Can't move an estimate or invoice to a different project

What you're seeing

You need to move an estimate and an invoice to another project, but both were created on a project that didn't have linked jobs, and ServiceTitan won't let you move them.

Why this happens

Reason 1

An estimate or invoice created directly on a project without linked jobs stays tied to that original project.

ServiceTitan doesn't support moving these to another project, so you recreate them on the correct project instead.

Before you start

  • You need permission to delete estimates and edit invoices. If you don't have it, contact your administrator.

  • This workaround removes work. You delete the estimate and remove every item from the invoice, then rebuild them on the correct project. Capture any details you need (amounts, items, notes) first, since deleting the estimate and zeroing the invoice can't be undone.

  • You may be able to avoid rebuilding the estimate from scratch. A related article, How can I detach an estimate from a project in ServiceTitan?, describes dismissing the estimate and exporting it as a template so you can re-import it on the correct project with its line items intact. Consider that approach for the estimate before deleting it.

How to fix it

1Recreate the estimate and invoice on the correct project

  1. Open the opportunity for the estimate you need to move.

  2. From the opportunity, delete the estimate. (To keep its contents, dismiss the estimate and export it as a template instead, then re-import it on the correct project. See the detach-estimate article linked below.)

  3. For the invoice, open it and remove each item so the invoice is zeroed out.

  4. Recreate the estimate or invoice on the correct project from the project's Actions dropdown menu:

    • Choose Build Estimate to add the estimate to the project.

    • Choose Add Invoice to add the invoice to the project.

✓ Done · The estimate and invoice now exist on the correct project.

Note: If you've already booked a job from the estimate, detach the job from the original project and attach it to the correct project. The estimate itself will stay connected to the original project and can't be transferred.

Still not working?

Contact ServiceTitan Technical Support at go.servicetitan.com/ask with:

  • The estimate and/or invoice number and the current (wrong) project

  • The project you're trying to move them to

  • Whether a job was already booked from the estimate

  • Which steps from this article you already tried
