What you're seeing

When you print or email an invoice, estimate, or statement to a customer, the PDF shows the words "Home Improvement Contract" in red letters. You didn't add this text and want to know why it's there and how to remove it.

Why this happens

There is 1 common reason.

Reason 1

The text is required compliance wording added by the Enable California Compliant Contract configuration.

The "Home Improvement Contract" text is part of the Enable California Compliant Contract configuration. This is required compliance text for jobs subject to California's home-improvement contract rules (which include requirements such as the three-day right to cancel), so it's added to the PDF automatically when that configuration applies to your account. It isn't something you add or remove on an individual invoice or template.

How to fix it

There's no setting on the invoice, estimate, or print template that removes this text, and it's expected behavior rather than an error. Because it's mandatory compliance wording, it isn't something you remove yourself.

1Confirm whether the text should apply to your business

Use this if you're seeing the "Home Improvement Contract" text and want to know whether it's correct or needs to change.

  1. If the text is appearing and your work is subject to California home-improvement contract requirements, this is correct and expected — no action is needed.

  2. If you believe the text is appearing when it shouldn't apply to your business, note that whether the Enable California Compliant Contract configuration is turned on for your account is a compliance-governed setting, not a self-serve toggle. Contact Technical Support to review whether it should apply to you.

✓ Done · You understand why the text appears and what your options are. You're done.
