Can't edit the unit price of a material in an estimate

What you're seeing

You open an estimate and try to change the price of a material, but the Unit Price field is grayed out and won't let you type. This can affect one material or every material on the estimate, depending on the cause.

Why this happens

There are 2 common reasons.

Reason 1

You don't have the material permissions needed to edit pricing.

Without the right permissions on your profile, the Unit Price field is locked.

Reason 2

The material is set as non-chargeable.

Non-chargeable materials don't carry a customer-facing price, so the Unit Price field stays grayed out.

Before you start

To edit material pricing you need the Edit material price and Edit Material Charge permissions on your profile. If you can't view or change permissions, contact your administrator.

How to fix it

Work through both checks.

1Confirm you have the right permissions

  1. Check that your profile has the Edit material price and Edit Material Charge permissions enabled.

  2. If you can't view or edit permissions yourself, contact your administrator to enable them.

  3. Return to the estimate and try editing the Unit Price field again.

✓ Done · With the permissions enabled, the Unit Price field is editable. If it's still grayed out, go to Check 2.

2Make the material chargeable

  1. Find the material you want to edit in the estimate.

  2. Find the Chargeable column for that material. If it's gray, the material is set as non-chargeable. (Depending on where you're editing, this control may appear as Charge for Material.)

  3. Click the Chargeable toggle to make the material chargeable.

✓ Done · Once the material is chargeable, the Unit Price field becomes editable and you can set the price.

Still not working?

If the Unit Price field is still grayed out after both checks, contact ServiceTitan Technical Support at go.servicetitan.com/ask with:

  • The estimate number and the material name/code

  • Whether the material's Chargeable toggle is on or off

  • Which material permissions are enabled on your profile

  • Which checks from this article you already tried
