Set up an hourly-plus-incentives pay structure

Overview

Use this workflow as a guide for setting up a pay structure with a base hourly pay supplemented by performance bonuses and commission pay.


Who uses this feature

  • Administrators and managers

  • This feature is available in the ServiceTitan Works package.

Things to know

  • This pay structure provides a base hourly pay but also offers the opportunity for technicians to earn extra money by setting leads.

  • Use this pay structure to incentivize technicians to sell items and services you want to focus on.

  • Sales technicians receive a commission when a sold estimate leads to a completed job.

Set hourly pay

  1. Go to the top toolbar and click SettingsA simple icon representing a settings gear. .

  2. In the side panel, go to People > Technicians.

  3. From the Technicians screen, click Edit for the technician you want to set payroll for. Technicians list showing names, phone numbers, usernames, and edit options for each.The Edit Technician screen opens.

  4. Click the Payroll tab.

  5. Make sure the following fields are completed:        

    1. Pay Type—Select Both                

      Note: If you do not see the Pay Type field, please contact Technical Support for details.

    2. Hourly Rate—Enter the technician's hourly rate Editing payroll details for technician Chester, including hourly rate and commission settings.

Note: Commission Rate, Sold By Rate, Default Adjustment Rate, and Range Bonuses are only used if a technician is assigned the Default pay profile.

When you're finished, click Save.

Set up sales technician pay profile

Goal: Pay a 5% sales commission for specific HVAC install items.

Note: Commission is based on the invoice item price of the HVAC install item.

Follow the steps to set up and assign a pay profile with the following pay rule:

  • Pay type: Sales Commission on Invoice Item

  • Job filter: None; applies to all jobs Configuration screen for pay rules with options for job filters and payment calculation.

  • Pay calculation:        

    • Take: Flat amount based on Invoice Item Total

    • Multiply by: A percentage set on the invoice item                

      Note: Follow the steps to create a custom payroll field for invoice items. The XLSX spreadsheet you download includes your entire pricebook listed by item code. Enter the commission rate in the Value column for all HVAC install items.

Set up install technician pay profile

Goal: Pay flat performance bonus based on HVAC install jobs. Technicians also earn $25 for every sales lead they set.

Follow the steps to set up and assign a pay profile with the following pay rules:

Pay rule #1

This rule awards a 3% installation bonus for HVAC installations including technician splits.

  • Pay type: Performance Bonus

  • Job filter: HVAC Install job type Configuration screen for performance bonus with job type filter for HVAC installation.

  • Pay calculation:        

    • Take: Flat $ Amount based on Invoice Subtotal

    • Multiply by: % Percentage set here = 3%

    • Multiply by: % Percentage based on Technician Split Rate Configuration options for calculating technician pay based on invoice subtotal and percentages.

Pay rule #2

This rule pays $25 for every sales lead a technician sets on a job.

  • Pay type: TGL/Turnover Bonus Paid when lead is set

  • Job filter: None; applies to all jobs Configuration options for performance and turnover bonuses in a pay rules interface.

  • Pay calculation:        

    • Take: Flat $ Amount based on Invoice Subtotal

    • Take Above and Apply To: For $ on Range set here, set an invoice subtotal range from $0-$999,999 that pays $25. Configuration settings for pay calculation based on invoice subtotal and specified range.
