Select opportunity types in the Duplicate Estimate window upon creating new opportunities

What's changing
Until now, duplicating an estimate through Create New Opportunity never asked what kind of opportunity to create. ServiceTitan created a Job opportunity by default and worked out the real type later, based on what happened next, such as the estimate being added to a project. That produced deals in the wrong pipeline, and in some cases two opportunities against the same estimate, one Job and one Project. Because the type cannot be changed afterwards on Pipeline, the only fix was to rebuild the deal. Now an Opportunity Type control appears on the Duplicate Estimate window whenever you choose Create New Opportunity, it arrives pre-selected from the estimate you are duplicating, and the intent you state is what ServiceTitan CRM creates.

2.Choose Create New Opportunity, then complete Customer, Location, and Associated Job.
2.Choose Create New Opportunity. An Opportunity Type control now appears alongside Customer, Location, and Associated Job.
3.Submit. ServiceTitan creates a Job opportunity by default and never asks what you intended.
3.Check the type. It arrives pre-selected from the estimate you are duplicating, so a project estimate starts on Project and a job estimate starts on Job.
4.Later, the real type gets worked out from what happens next, such as the estimate being added to a project.
4.Change the type if it is wrong, then submit. Submit stays blocked with a validation message until a type is chosen.
5.Find the deal sitting in the wrong pipeline, or find two opportunities against the same estimate.
5.ServiceTitan CRM creates an opportunity of the type you stated, and no second opportunity is created for the same estimate.
⚠ Deals land in the wrong pipeline with the wrong stage logic and the wrong forecast, and because the type cannot be changed afterwards on Pipeline, the only fix is to rebuild the deal.
✓ The deal starts in the right pipeline with the right stage logic and a forecast you can trust, and there is no wrong-type opportunity to unpick later.
How it works for your industry
Commercial Service and Replacement
A sales rep quoting a rooftop unit (RTU) changeout for a second building on the same campus duplicates the original estimate, sees Job already selected because the source estimate sits on a job, and submits without stopping to decide.
An account manager repackaging a declined coil replacement as a fresh quote duplicates the estimate and sets the type to Project, so the deal is forecast against the project pipeline rather than showing up as a one-visit job.
A commercial team reviewing their pipeline at the end of the month no longer has to reconcile duplicate opportunities against the same estimate, because the type is stated at duplication time instead of being worked out afterwards.
Commercial Construction
An estimator reusing a mechanical rough-in estimate for a second phase duplicates it, sees Project pre-selected from the project-held source estimate, and keeps the new deal in the project pipeline where phased work belongs.
A preconstruction lead duplicating a bid for a different general contractor states Project at the point of duplication, so stage logic for long-cycle work applies from the first day rather than after someone corrects the record.
A sales manager running a forecast sees each duplicated bid counted once, in the correct pipeline, instead of the same revenue appearing twice across a Job opportunity and a Project opportunity.
How to prepare
01
Confirm an administrator has ServiceTitan CRM and any prerequisite configurations enabled for your account. Reach out to Support or your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to have them turned on. This control does nothing without ServiceTitan CRM.
02
Check permissions. Only people who already hold the opportunity-creation permission see the Create New Opportunity option and the Opportunity Type control. No new permission is introduced and no existing permission changes.
03
Identify the people on your commercial team who duplicate estimates into new deals, and review the pre-selected type with them. The type that arrives is taken from the estimate being duplicated, and it can be changed before you submit.
04
Train your team that the type cannot be changed afterwards on Pipeline. Choosing correctly at duplication time is the whole point of the control. Note that only Job and Project are offered here, even though ServiceTitan CRM also tracks Service Agreement opportunities.
