Protect your pricing with Sales Margin Enforcement to stop low-margin estimates in the Field Mobile App

Prev Next

Margin and discount enforcement is a new feature that enforces your Sales Margin Control rules in the Field Mobile App so you prevent discounts that cut into profit at the point of sale.

What's new?

Before, technicians in the Field Mobile App could apply deep discounts and still share or present estimates that fell below your target margin. Now, ServiceTitan calculates margin in real time on the device, even when offline, and compares it to your global or role-based limits. When an estimate is non-compliant, the app shows a warning icon you can tap that then shows the exact dollar shortfall so the technician knows how far off the target they are. When a technician tries to share or present estimates, a Review Estimates soft-block modal appears for any non-compliant estimates and requires a clear opt-in before they can be shared.

Note: When offline, the Field Mobile App does not use dynamic prices from the pricebook. You must be online to use dynamic pricing.

Resources

Before and After

Before (Current)

  1. An administrator sets margin targets and discount guidelines for their team outside of ServiceTitan, but technicians can build estimates in the Field Mobile App without following those guidelines since there were no guardrails.

  2. A technician adds items and discounts on an estimate and only sees the final price, not whether margin is below your policy.

  3. The technician emails or presents the estimate with no warnings, even if it is below your minimum margin.

  4. Office staff review sold jobs later and must flag and fix unprofitable work after it is already sold.

Impact: Margin rules are hard to enforce in the field, which can lead to revenue loss and extra work to correct low-margin jobs.

After

  1. An administrator configures Sales Margin Control limits in Settings > Estimates > Sales Margin Control so ServiceTitan knows your minimum acceptable margins by role or globally.

  2. When a technician creates or edits estimates in the Field Mobile App, ServiceTitan calculates margin and checks it against the office-set limits, even if the technician's device is offline.

  3. If an estimate is below the minimum, the estimate shows a warning icon that you can tap to see the dollar amount needed to reach the required margin.

  4. When the technician starts a Share or Present action, the Review Estimates modal highlights non-compliant estimates, pre-selects compliant ones, and requires an explicit choice to send any non-compliant estimate.

Impact: You enforce pricing rules at the point of sale, reduce unprofitable estimates, and give technicians clear guidance without relying on manual review.

Who uses this feature

  • Residential Service and Replacement, Residential Construction

  • Administrators, managers (setup of margin control)

  • Technicians

  • Region availability: All regions

How it works for your industry

Residential Service and Replacement

  • A heating and cooling sales technician builds a replacement proposal for a furnace with add-on accessories. Margin Enforcement flags the estimate when discounts push margin below your rule and shows the dollar shortfall, so the technician can adjust pricing or scope before presenting to the homeowner.

  • A technician working a plumbing repair visit adds parts and a courtesy discount in the Field Mobile App. The app shows a margin warning and the technician raises the price slightly to bring the estimate back within your margin rules, protecting profit on small jobs that add up over the year.

  • During a comfort consultation, the technician builds several options. The Review Estimates modal pre-selects compliant options and leaves non-compliant ones unchecked with warnings, guiding the technician to present options that meet your margin targets first.

Residential Construction

  • A field lead on a new home build uses the Field Mobile App to create a change order for upgraded fixtures. Margin Enforcement checks the change order against your new construction margin rules so upgrades do not undercut project profit.

  • When framing or electrical extras are added late in the job, the field lead builds the estimate on a tablet. If the pricing drops below your minimum margin, the app surfaces a warning icon that you can tap to see the needed dollar adjustment, prompting the lead to adjust before sending the change order to the homeowner's representative.

  • For volume builders, field staff often handle many small change orders. The Review Estimates modal helps them send compliant changes first and makes any low-margin change a clear, tracked exception for the construction manager.

How to Prepare?

  1. Confirm that your Sales Margin Control rules in ServiceTitan Settings match your minimum acceptable margins by role.

  2. Confirm that roles and permissions for estimate workflows in the Field Mobile App align with who should create, edit, and sell estimates in the field.

  3. Required permission settings under the (New) Field Mobile App Experience permission:

    1. Sell Estimate

    2. Add Estimate and Invoice Item

    3. Edit Item Details

    4. Edit Item Quantity

    5. View Total Price

  4. Required permissions settings under the Estimates and Follow Up section:

    1. Make estimate name required

    2. Calculate prices

    3. Edit material price

    4. Edit equipment price

    5. View/Edit Proposals

  5. Required permission under the Pricebook section:

    1. View item prices

  6. Identify teams, trades, or locations with the most margin leakage today and plan to pilot Margin Enforcement with those technicians first.

  7. Train technicians and sales staff on the new warning banners and Review Estimates modal, including how to correct non-compliant estimates or when to request approval.

  8. Align administrators and managers on how they will monitor non-compliant estimates and coach field staff using this new enforcement workflow.
