Go directly to document annotations and RFIs from Field Mobile App messages

Prev Next

This improvement lets field technicians and sales professionals navigate directly from messages and Request for Information (RFI) reviews to the exact document annotation in the Field Mobile App, eliminating the need for phone calls to coordinate on file references.

What's new?

Before, when a colleague tagged you in an annotation comment on a project document, the notification on the Messages screen had no working link to the file. You had to call the office or manually search through documents to find the right one. The same gap existed for Requests for Information (RFIs): when reviewing an RFI that referenced a specific location on a drawing, there was no way to jump directly to that annotation from within the Field Mobile App.

Now, tapping an annotation link at the top of a message takes you straight to the referenced document. And when reviewing an RFI, you can tap View on drawing to go directly to the annotation file where the RFI pin was placed.

Note: The Messaging feature in the Field Mobile App is currently in Private Preview and has limited availability. If you are interested in testing this feature, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) through the office.

Before and After

Before (Current)

  1. A colleague tags you in an annotation comment on a project document from the office.

  2. You receive a notification on the Messages screen in the Field Mobile App.

  3. You tap the notification, but it does not navigate to the document.

  4. You call the office to ask which file and where to look.

  5. You manually search through documents to find the correct one.

Impact: Field teams lose time coordinating over the phone, and office staff are interrupted to relay file locations that should be accessible directly from the notification.

After

  1. A colleague tags you in an annotation comment on a project document from the office.

  2. You receive a notification on the Messages screen in the Field Mobile App.

  3. You tap the link in the message and the Field Mobile App opens the referenced annotation file.

  4. You review the annotation and take action without leaving the app.

Impact: Field teams respond to annotation mentions immediately from their device, and office staff no longer need to make follow-up calls to direct technicians to the right document.

Who uses this feature

  • Market Segments: Residential Construction, Commercial Construction

  • Technicians: Technicians (navigate from messages and Request for Information (RFI) reviews to document annotations)

  • Region availability: All regions

How it works for your industry

Residential Construction

  • A framing crew lead is tagged in an annotation about a structural change on the second floor plan. They tap the link in Messages from the Field Mobile App and review the markup in real time, keeping the crew aligned.

  • A project superintendent reviewing a Request for Information (RFI) about a window placement taps View on drawing to see the exact location on the elevation drawing and responds with a decision from the job site.

  • A plumbing rough-in technician receives an annotation about a relocated drain line. They open the link in Messages and navigate to the annotation, confirming the change before cutting into the slab.

Commercial Construction

  • A site foreman on a commercial build is tagged in an annotation about fire-stop locations. They tap the link in the message and view the marked-up sheet directly from the Field Mobile App, keeping inspections on schedule.

  • A mechanical contractor reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs) for a multi-story office build taps View on drawing to reference the exact duct penetration on the structural drawings.

  • An electrical subcontractor receives an annotation on the power distribution plan about relocated junction boxes. They navigate to the file from their message, verify the changes, and pass the information to their crew.

How to prepare

  1. Have an administrator reach out to Support or your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to confirm that Document Management and the Messaging feature are enabled for your account.

  2. Confirm that technicians and sales staff have the View My Projects permission enabled, as Document Management is scoped to projects.

  3. Identify team members who collaborate on project documents and annotations, and brief them on the new navigation flow from the Messages screen and RFI reviews.

  4. Bookmark any knowledge base articles for team training.
