What's new

Before this release, each visit series on a service agreement generated its dates on its own, with nothing to keep related visits a safe distance apart. If an agreement bundled two treatments that cannot happen too close together, office staff had to catch that conflict by checking the schedule by hand. Now, an administrator configures a minimum spacing rule one time, on a pair of visit templates, and every new service agreement built from that pair inherits the rule automatically. When ServiceTitan generates or re-evaluates visit dates, it pushes a visit out when it can to satisfy the spacing, and flags it for review when the visit window cannot fit the required distance.

Workflow comparison — before & after

← Before
✓ After
1.An administrator builds a service agreement with two independent visit series, such as a pre-emergent herbicide treatment and a fall overseeding treatment.
1.An administrator configures a minimum spacing relationship one time between the two visit templates, setting the required distance and which visit must come first.
2.Each series generates its own visit dates with no awareness of the other series on the same agreement.
2.Every new service agreement built from that pair of templates inherits the rule automatically, with no extra setup per agreement.
3.If the two treatments land too close together, nothing catches it.
3.When ServiceTitan generates or re-evaluates visit dates, it pushes the later visit out to satisfy the configured spacing, or flags the visit with a Minimum spacing violation notice if the visit window cannot fit it.
4.Office staff have to manually review the schedule on every agreement to catch a conflict like this.
4.Office staff review flagged visits from the Scope of Work, the Follow-Ups > Service Agreement Visits list, or the agreement's Performance > Visits tab, and resolve them before the visit is booked. Not all flags block job booking, and booking the job clears most flags.
⚠ Catching a spacing conflict depends on someone remembering to check, so a violation can slip through and the treatment does not take effect for the customer.
✓ The correct spacing is applied automatically on every new agreement, so contractors spend less time manually checking schedules and treatments are less likely to be applied too close together.

How it works for your industry

Property Care
  • Pest control: A quarterly pest treatment and a separately-scheduled rodent exclusion service can be configured so the rodent visit never lands too close to the pest treatment, without an office employee checking every agreement by hand.
  • Lawn care: A pre-emergent herbicide treatment and a fall overseeding service can be configured with a required number of weeks between them, since applying overseed too soon after a pre-emergent application prevents the grass seed from germinating.
  • Lawn care: A multi-step treatment chain, where several sequential treatments each need to precede the next, can carry its own spacing rule at each step, so the program stays in the correct order automatically as ServiceTitan generates each agreement's visits.

How to prepare

01
Have an administrator reach out to Support or your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to have Minimum Spacing enabled for your account.
02
Make sure Service Agreements, visit templates, and Document Template Manager are enabled for your account. Minimum Spacing requires them.
03
Confirm a job cancellation reason is configured before creating your first spacing relationship. The new Visit Template Relationships tab in Settings > Service Agreement Templates requires one to be selected before it lets you save a relationship.
04
Identify which visit template pairs need a spacing rule, focusing on treatments with a chemical, regulatory, or safety constraint against landing too close together.
05
Train office staff to recognize the Minimum spacing violation flag on the Scope of Work step when creating agreements, and an active agreement's Visits tab, and how to resolve each cause.
