Create inventory adjustment to convert material unitLast updated on 02/09/2023

You can create an inventory adjustment to convert an inventory item from one unit to another unit. For example, purchase managers order items from a vendor in one unit and sell the same item to the customer in another unit. This lets you accurately track job costing and materials in your inventory.

Create inventory adjustment to convert material unit

  1. Add the first material in your pricebook.

    • The first material represents the item in the unit you’re purchasing in. For example, you can create an item representing refrigerant in jugs.

  2. Activate inventory tracking for the material.

  3. Repeat steps 1-2 for the second material.

    • The second material represents the item in the unit to which you’re selling to the customer. For example, you can create an item representing refrigerant in pounds.

  4. Create a purchase order for the material you are purchasing from a vendor.

  5. Create an inventory adjustment to convert the material from the initial unit to the new unit.

    • Subtract the quantity in the initial unit from the material you purchased.

    • Add the quantity in the converted unit to the material you sell to your customers.
