What is causing the Recurring Service Events to default to a specific time instead of the specified 2-hour job duration?

Problem

When booking a Recurring Service Event, the system defaults to a start time instead of using the 2-hour duration specified for the job type. The end time does not adjust according to the job duration, causing scheduling issues. Resolutions are dependent on account configuration.

Solution

1. Job duration of recurring services - Default settings

By default, when you book a recurring service the job duration is going to be determined by the Job Type setup in Settings. This default setting is recommended for efficiency and ease of use as you book recurring services. There are several changes that you can make:

  1. You can set up or edit recurring services through the Memberships Wizard:        

    1. Go to Settings A simple icon representing a settings gear. > Operations > Membership Types.

    2. Edit the membership type in question.

    3. Go to Step Three: Recurrences and make the changes. For more details, see Set Recurrences.

  2. You can change the Job Type of a recurring service:        

    1. Go to Settings A simple icon representing a settings gear. > Operations > Recurring Service Types.

    2. Edit the recurring Type in question.

    3. Scroll down to Job Type Details.

    4. Change the Job Type.

  3. If you want to create a new Job Type or edit an existing Job Type:        

    1. Go to Settings A simple icon representing a settings gear. > Operations > Job Types.

    2. Edit the Job type in question.

    3. Make the necessary changes and click Save.

2. Use sold hours for recurring events job duration

This allows for the duration of a job booked from a recurring event to be determined by the sum of the sold hours on the item in the invoice template. To add sold hours to an item, edit them in your pricebook:

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Pricebook.

  2. In the side panel, click Services, Equipment, or Materials, depending on the item you want to edit.

  3. On the item table that opens, browse the table or use the search field to find the item you want to edit. You can search by item code, name, or description.        

    Tip: To filter the list of items, click Filters. You can filter based on category, sold hours, price, and other details. After setting your filters, click Apply.

  4. Switch the toggle to Edit Mode.

  5. For the item you want to edit, click the entry in the Hours column to edit the field.

  6. Don't forget to re-add the task to the recurring service invoice template.
