Run the Inventory Valuation Snapshot report

Coming soon to ST-80 release.

Overview

The Inventory Valuation Snapshot report template provides accounting and operations teams with a historical view of their inventory value as of a specific date. The report’s cost columns remain fixed to the selected date, ensuring that the same total is returned whenever the report is run for that date. This supports accurate and consistent inventory valuation for month-end close.

Who uses this feature

  • Purchasing managers

  • Applies to all business types

Feature configuration

  • Account configuration is required to use this feature: the Purchasing and Inventory modules must both be enabled for the account. Please contact Technical Support for details.

Things to know

  • The existing Aggregate Inventory Stock report is unaffected by this release — its cost columns still always reflect current pricebook cost. Use Inventory Valuation Snapshot instead when you need a valuation that won't drift for a closed period.

  • There's no backfill: for a date before this feature shipped, or for an item that didn't exist yet on that date, the report falls back to showing current cost.

  • In this first version, only the cost and valuation columns are frozen as of your selected date. Descriptive item fields like Item Code and Description still show their current values even when you're viewing an older date.

Best practices

  • Run this report as part of your month-end close, and reconcile its total against the Inventory Asset account in your accounting system.

  • Rerun the report for the same past date at any point after — the total should stay the same. That consistency is the point of the report, and a good way to confirm a closed period hasn't drifted.

  • If you track serialized inventory, cross-check those items against current records rather than relying on this report's date filter for them — see the note above.

Use cases

  • A controller closes December's books, runs this report for 12/31, and files the result. In February, an auditor asks for the same figure — rerunning the report for 12/31 returns the same total, even though pricebook costs have since changed.

  • An operations team reconciles the Inventory Asset account on the balance sheet at each month-end close, using this report as the source of the inventory valuation figure.
