Overview
Technicians can record how much material they use on a job as work progresses. The Consumption tab in the job view shows all inventory items transferred to your job from the office and lets you consume them in full or in part. This helps your business track job costs accurately throughout the job — not just at closeout.

Things to know
The office team creates Transfer-to-Job items through an Install Requisition before they appear in your Consumption tab. Your office must enable and configure this workflow first.
Transfers must be in Picked or Partially Picked status before you can consume them. Transfers in Pending status are visible but not yet available to consume.
When you consume items, they are added to your invoice at $0. Your office uses this data to track job costs.
If you consume only part of a transfer, the remaining quantity automatically rolls over into a new transfer linked to the same job.
Serialized items require you to enter or scan a serial number before consumption can be saved.
If unconsumed transfers remain when you try to close your job, you will see a warning. You can choose to consume remaining items or cancel the transfer before closing.
Best practices
Record consumption as you use materials — not all at once at the end of the job. This gives your office accurate week-over-week cost visibility.
If you know you won't use a transferred item, cancel it rather than leaving it open. This returns the quantity to the warehouse and keeps inventory accurate.
If you are a foreman managing a crew, take ownership of recording consumption at the end of each work day or phase so project costs stay current.
Use cases
A commercial HVAC foreman has a multi-day installation job. At the end of each day, they open the Consumption tab and record how many units of each material they installed, keeping job costs up to date for the office.
A technician receives a transfer with 15 circuit breakers for a panel upgrade. They use 10 during the job. They consume 10, and the remaining 5 automatically roll over to a new transfer so the warehouse knows the items are still out.
A foreman realizes mid-job that one transferred item will not be needed. They cancel that transfer directly from the Consumption tab so the item is returned to the warehouse inventory.
View transferred items for your job
Open your job and tap the Consumption tab.
Note: The Consumption tab only appears when your job has Transfer-to-Job items associated with it. If you don't see the tab, contact your office to confirm the transfer has been created and picked.

(Optional) If the item is serialized, tap Select Serial Number and scan or manually enter each serial number for the quantity you are consuming. The number of serial numbers you enter must match the quantity.
Note: You cannot save consumption for a serialized item without providing the correct number of serial numbers.
When finished, tap Consume Items.
The item's consumed quantity updates immediately. If you consumed less than the full available quantity, the remaining amount rolls over to a new transfer on the same job.
Cancel a transfer
Use this step if a transferred item will not be used and you want to return the remaining quantity to the warehouse.
On the Consumption tab, tap the transfer you want to cancel.
Tap Return Items to Warehouse.

In the confirmation screen that opens, tap Return Items to confirm.

Caution: Only cancel a transfer if you are certain the items will not be used on this job.
The transfer moves to Canceled status and the quantity is returned to your warehouse inventory.
Closing a job with unconsumed transfers
When you attempt to close your job, the Field Mobile App checks for any transfers with remaining unconsumed quantities.
If unconsumed transfers exist, a warning screen appears listing the items with quantities still available.

Tap the transfers. From this screen, you can:
Consume items before closing out the job.
Return items to the warehouse.
