Set up SIP forwarding for inbound calls

Prev Next

Overview

SIP forwarding is a call-delivery method that routes your inbound calls straight to a SIP URI on your own phone system. Calls travel over the Internet directly to your local phone system (IP PBX) and ring your agents' desk phones. Because the call takes the most direct route to your network, SIP forwarding delivers higher average call quality, fewer points of failure, and quicker resolution when issues are reported.

Who uses this feature

  • Administrators

  • Applies to all business types

  • Applies to all trades

Feature configuration

  • Account configuration is required. Please contact Technical Support to set up SIP forwarding for your account.

Things to know

  • SIP forwarding sends your inbound calls directly to a SIP URI on your local phone system, rather than forwarding them to a standard phone number.

  • You configure SIP forwarding on your own phone system (IP PBX) and network, so you may need your telecom vendor or IT administrator to complete the setup.

  • SIP forwarding is one of several ways to route calls to and from ServiceTitan. For standard phone integration, see Integrate your phones during onboarding.

Best practices

  • Confirm your firewall allows SIP traffic on port 5060 before you go live, so inbound calls are not blocked.

  • Whitelist the ServiceTitan DNS entry rather than individual IP addresses. The DNS hostname stays constant even when the underlying IP addresses change, so your calls keep routing correctly without any action on your part.

  • Test with a live call after setup to confirm inbound calls reach your agents' desk phones.

How SIP forwarding routes an inbound call

When SIP forwarding is set up, an inbound call reaches your team along this path:

  1. The calling party dials your number.

  2. The call is handled by the origination vendor and passed to the API platform.

  3. The call is processed by ServiceTitan.

  4. The call is SIP forwarded over the Internet directly to your local phone system (IP PBX).

  5. Your local phone system rings the agent's desk phone.

Allow ServiceTitan SIP traffic on your network

To receive SIP-forwarded calls, allow ServiceTitan's outbound SIP traffic through your firewall by whitelisting the following DNS entry on port 5060:

  • sip-outbound.servicetitan.com

Format your SIP URI

Provide ServiceTitan with the SIP URI on your phone system where calls should be delivered. Use one of these formats:

  • sip:+1yournumber@yourIPaddress:5060

  • sip:+yoursipextension@yourdomain.com:5060
