Edit a serial number in your pricebook

Note: Serial number fields are only editable for items that are currently in stock. If your inventory quantity is zero or the item is marked as out of stock, the serial number fields will appear grayed out and can't be edited. You must receive inventory for the item before you can edit its serial numbers.

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Pricebook

  2. From the side menu, select Materials or Equipment. For example, select Materials.

  3. On the Materials page that opens, select the item for which you want to edit the serial number.

  4. From the Actions dropdown field, select View/Edit Material.

  5. On the Edit Material page that opens, click the Inventory Settings tab.

  6. Click the Serial Number Tracking card. The Serial Number Tracking page opens.

  7. In the Serialization column, click Serialized for the item you want to edit.

Note: You can also click Update Serial Numbers to enter additional serial numbers for an item.

  8. On the pop-up window that opens, edit the serial numbers as needed.

  9. When you’re finished, click Save.

Troubleshoot grayed-out serial number fields

If the serial number fields appear grayed out (uneditable), it is because serial numbers can only be edited for items currently in stock. To resolve this:

  1. Go to Pricebook > Materials/Equipment.

  2. Check the inventory quantity for the item.

  3. If it shows 0 or out of stock, you need to receive inventory first before editing serial numbers.

If you have items in stock but still cannot edit serial numbers, verify that Inventory Tracking is activated for that item:

  1. Go to Pricebook > Materials/Equipment.

  2. Select the item > Actions > View/Edit Material/Equipment.

  3. Click the Inventory Settings tab.

  4. Confirm that Inventory Tracking is enabled.
