Segment targeting happens based on attributes about someone or something. Attributes about someone relate to the customer's account or contact, while attributes about something relate to the customer's estimates, services, properties, service agreements, or service agreement visits. You can create segments to acquire new customers or retain existing ones. --- ### #### Who uses this feature This article is for Marketing Pro v2. If you are using Marketing Pro, see [Create audiences](/roofing/docs/create-audiences) for content specific to your experience. You can check your version following these steps: 1. Go to the navigation bar and click **Marketing** ![A speaker icon representing Marketing in ServiceTitan.](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/icon-marketing.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T19%3A50%3A02Z&se=2026-11-01T20%3A50%3A02Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JiLZd8RfremMLveTDuStQVd6RNn6FVqHURoiXNxYaN0%3D). 2. If the side menu under Analytics includes One-Time Campaigns and Automated Campaigns, you're using [Marketing Pro v2](/v1/docs/marketing-pro-v2). If these options aren't visible, you're using [Marketing Pro](/v1/docs/marketing-pro). ![Analytics section highlighted in the Marketing side menu.](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/screenshot-marketing-analytics.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T19%3A50%3A02Z&se=2026-11-01T20%3A50%3A02Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JiLZd8RfremMLveTDuStQVd6RNn6FVqHURoiXNxYaN0%3D) #### Who uses this feature - Marketing managers, business owners, and other marketers on your team - Primarily benefits Commercial Service and Replacement business types and Residential Service and Replacement business types - Applies to all trades #### Feature configuration - To get started with Marketing Pro, request a demo on our [Pro Products page](https://www.servicetitan.com/features/pro), or reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Pro Account Manager (PAM). ## Things to know - You need to have at least one segment archived to go to the *Archived* tab on the *Segments* screen. - The reach for all active segments is recalculated daily so the list of customers tied to the segment is kept up-to-date. The reach is not recalculated for a segment after it's archived. - All dates related to the segment are in the time zone configured for your account. - Service agreement and service agreement visit attributes are available only if your account uses Service Agreements. No setup is required—the attributes appear automatically in the filter list when both products are active. - You can use the available [merge tags](/v1/docs/add-special-links-and-merge-tags-to-your-marketing-content) when creating content for a marketing campaign. The data for these merge tags is pulled from the customer data for the segment associated with the campaign. The following data are available from the segmented customer base: - Account data - Data for the entity—account, property, estimate, or service—selected within the Primary Segment - When you filter on a date attribute that supports empty values, such as *Membership End Date*, a checkbox appears below the filter. Select the checkbox to include records that don’t have a date set for that field. For example, selecting **Include memberships with no end date** adds memberships without a defined end date to the segment’s reach. For segments migrated from the legacy experience, this checkbox is selected by default to preserve your existing audience. For new segments, the checkbox is cleared by default. ## Create a segment to retain existing customers 1. In the *Segment Exclusion Group* section, click **Add Filter** to define the exclusion criteria. 11. When finished, click **Save**. This saves the criteria and calculates the Reach for the segment. ## Example retention segment You can create segments that target customers based on two types of attributes: *attributes about someone* and *attributes about something*. For example, you could create a segment to target customers who haven't called in the last year. This falls under *attributes about someone*, as it relates directly to the customer's account. You can refine the segment further by excluding customers with open estimates or active memberships since these show the customer is engaging with your company. These exclusions fall under *attributes about something*, as they relate to the customer's estimates and services, services, and service agreements. You can also build a retention segment from agreement data alone. For example, customers whose service agreements expire in the next 90 days, or customers with unscheduled agreement visits due this quarter. Because segment reach recalculates daily, these segments stay current as agreements approach their end dates. For more segment examples, see [View examples of commonly used segments](/roofing/docs/view-examples-of-commonly-used-segments-2). ![Filters for customer attributes and membership status in a segment inclusion group.](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/create-marketing-pro-segments-image-hayisyig.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T19%3A50%3A02Z&se=2026-11-01T20%3A50%3A02Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JiLZd8RfremMLveTDuStQVd6RNn6FVqHURoiXNxYaN0%3D) ## Create a segment to acquire new customers 1.
