What you're seeing
You received a single check that needs to pay for jobs belonging to two different customer profiles.
A normal payment applies to one customer's invoice, so it isn't obvious how to split one check across two separate customers.
This also applies when the two amounts are different — each customer's portion can be a different dollar amount.
Why this happens
Reason 1
A check payment is recorded against one customer profile at a time.
When a single check covers jobs for two different customers, you record it as a separate payment on each customer's invoice, using the same check number on both so the two records tie back to the one physical check.
Before you start
You need Payments permissions to collect and apply payments. If you don't have it, contact your admin.
Have the check number and the correct amount for each customer's invoice ready before you start.
How to fix it
1Record the check on each customer's invoice using the same check number
Use Search to find and open the first customer the payment applies to.
On the customer profile, click More > Collect Payment.
On the Collect and Apply Payments screen, enter the payment type and the payment amount for the first customer's job invoice.
Enter the check number in the Check Number field.
Select Apply to Invoice and choose the job invoice you want the payment applied to.
Click Save.
Use Search to find and open the second customer, then repeat steps 2–6 using the same check number and that customer's invoice amount.
✓ Done · Both customers' invoices show a payment recorded against the same check number, and the check is fully applied across the two profiles.
Note: If you regularly receive one payment that covers many separate customer profiles (for example, an HOA or property manager paying for multiple communities), consider grouping those customers under a project and using project payments, which auto-reconcile. This avoids recording the payment manually on each profile.
