Workaround When A Customer GMB Category Isn't Shown In Our UI : recommended workflowLast updated on 12/08/2022

When setting up a Google My Business location within Reputation Management, the business category does not match to an option in the Primary Category list.


Things to know

  • The Primary Category list is not in alphabetical order

  • The Primary Category list is comprised of a limited amount of options

  • The full list of options for Primary Category can be found in YEXT


Workflows

Workaround Process To Select The GMB Category Not Listed in ST

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Marketing. In the side panel, click Locations > In the upper right hand corner, click + Create Location.

  2. When selecting the Primary Category select the category that closest matches to the customers business category within Google My Business

  3. After the location has been approved by Yext, navigate to the left side panel menu, click Listings

  4. When Yext page opens, select the location that you will be working with, this should take you to the Knowledge Graph tab from the top menu

  5. In the very first section titles Core Information > click on the pencil icon on the upper right hand corner of the Categories section

  6. In blue font on the bottom right corner there is the Advance button to click on, this will pop open a window with Advance Category Management

  7. From the Category list select Google My Business

  8. In the Google My Business box to the right, click on the Override categories for Google My Business box found at the bottom

  9. Click on the trash can icon to the right of the currently selected Primary Category

  10. A search box will appear for you to find the category that matches the customers Google My Business account > Click the Apply button on the bottom right when found
