Member Savings and Potential Savings don’t match Membership DiscountsLast updated on 05/12/2023
This article helps resolve why an invoice has larger savings than it is expected by the user.
Problem
ServiceTitan offers the largest savings opportunity to customers when it is applicable for members and non-members. However, the calculation used for this can sometimes be unexpected to users if a user is not careful in their discount and member pricing setup. Member Savings and Potential Savings are calculated based on either the discount percentage listed in a membership type’s settings or the member price offered as listed in Pricebook.
Solution
As a solution, check how Member Savings and Potential Savings are calculated for members and non-members:
For members, see Check how Member Savings and Potential Savings are calculated for members.
For non-members, see Check how Member Savings and Potential Savings are calculated for non-members.
Check how Member Savings and Potential Savings are calculated for members:
In ServiceTitan, go to the navigation bar and click Settings.
Go to Invoicing > Membership Types.
Check the Customer’s Membership to see whether or not a discount is applied to the membership.
If a discount is applied to specific Business Units (BUs), check the Business Unit on the job to see the corresponding applicable discount in the membership type settings. Note: If 0% discount is equal to null, only the member pricing in Pricebook will be used. If the Do not discount if percentage is set to 0% box is selected, no savings opportunity will be applied.
If a discount is applied to specific categories, check the Business Unit for the categories the pricebook item is located in, see the corresponding applicable discount in the Membership Types settings. Note: For information on how to set discounts, see Create Membership types
Check whether or not the pricebook items have a member price listed in Pricebook. Note: If a member price of a pricebook item is set to $0, then this is treated as null. This means the member price is solely dependent on any discount offered from a customer's active membership.
Check whether or not the pricebook item allows discounts. Note: Some user accounts have a box for items in Pricebook that is called Allow Discounts. If this box is unselected, neither membership discounts nor member pricing will be applied.
Using the workflow above, you can calculate what Member Savings should be. First, identify which items are discountable and calculate the greatest amount of discount applicable. Then calculate Member Savings:
Member Savings should be equal to the difference between the sum of standard pricing on invoice items according to Pricebook and the sum of member pricing of discounted invoice items.
Member Savings = (Standard Price of ItemA + Standard Price of ItemB…) - (Discounted Price of ItemA + Discounted Price of ItemB…)
Check how Member Savings and Potential Savings are calculated for non-members
For non-members, the Potential Savings is calculated in a similar way. However, instead of checking a single membership type’s discount, it checks all possible discounts and showcases the savings in a range.
For example, item X has a standard price of $100 and a member price of $75. Membership type A offers a 50% discount, and membership B offers a 20% discount. The maximum amount of potential discount is 50% and the minimum amount of potential discount is 20%. So the customer will see a Potential Savings range of $20 - $50 to represent the range in savings possible depending on the membership applied.
To check for non-members:
In ServiceTitan, go to the navigation bar and click Settings.
Go to Invoicing > Membership Types.
Check Membership Types to see whether or not the highest and lowest discounts apply to these items.
If a discount is applied to specific Business Units, check the Business Unit on the job to see the corresponding applicable discount in the membership type settings. Note: If 0% discount is equal to null, only the member pricing in Pricebook will be used. If the Do not discount if percentage is set to 0% box is selected, no savings opportunity will be applied.
If a discount is applied to specific categories, check the business unit for the categories the pricebook item is located in to see the corresponding applicable discount in the membership type settings.
Check whether or not the pricebook items have a member price listed in Pricebook. Note: If a member price of $0 is equal to null, the Potential Savings for this item on the membership discounts only.
Check whether or not the pricebook item allows discounts. Note: Some accounts have a box for items in Pricebook that is called Allow Discounts. If this box is selected, no Potential Savings will be calculated for this item.
Once you have determined the potential pricing options for these items, Potential Savings is calculated by determining the difference between the sum of standard pricing for applicable items and the sum of both highest and lowest member pricing for applicable items. The Potential Savings are displayed as a range of the lowest possible savings to the highest:
Potential Savings = (Standard Price of ItemA + Standard Price of ItemB…) - (Highest Possible Discounted Price of ItemA + Highest PossibleDiscounted Price of ItemB…) & (Standard Price of ItemA + Standard Price of ItemB…) - (Lowest Possible Discounted Price of ItemA + Lowest Possible Discounted Price of ItemB…)
