Syncing tax exempt status on customer and location recordsLast updated on 01/17/2023

By default in ServiceTitan, you must designate tax status on customer records and location records separately. When this feature is configured in your account, the tax exempt status set on the customer record will automatically populate on all location records attached to that customer. This will enhance the accuracy of your location records and reduce accounting errors.

Note: When this feature is configured for your account, you will not be able to set or change the tax exempt status on location records. The tax exempt status for every location will automatically match the tax exempt status on the customer record.


How to set the tax exempt status on the customer record

You will set the tax exempt status for customers in the same way you normally would. However, when you navigate to location records, you will see that the tax exempt status is automatically set.

Remember: You will be able to set the tax exempt status on customer records only (not on locations records).

  1. Go to the customer record.

  2. Click the Edit Pencil icon on the customer record page.

  3. If the customer is tax exempt, select Non-taxable.

  4. When you're finished, click Save.


How to view the tax exempt status on location record

The tax exempt status will automatically match the customer record. To view the tax exempt status on the customer record:

  1. Go to the location record.

  2. Click into the matching location record.

  3. Click the Edit Pencil on the location record page. Notice that the tag next to the customer name will say Location.

  4. With this feature configured for your account, the Non-Taxable checkbox on the location record will be grayed out, and you will not be able to set or change the tax exempt status on the location record.

    Remember: If you would like to make changes to the tax status, you can do so on the customer record.
