Overview of Technician Clock I/OLast updated on 03/31/2022

With Technician Clock I/O you can efficiently track and itemize all technician hours outside of drive time and job hours.

  • Technician Clock I/O uses timesheet codes to track non-job timesheet events. You can set whether a non-job timesheet event is paid or unpaid.


Overview

Clock in time appears as the start time on technician timesheets.

Timesheets show the technician’s daily clock-in time. If the technician does not clock in manually, clock in happens automatically when any of the following occurs:

  • Dispatch to the first job (if drive time is paid)

  • Arrival at the first job

  • Start of a scheduled non-job event at the beginning of the day

Clock out time appears as the end time on technician timesheets.

Timesheets show the technician’s daily clock-=-out time. If the technician does not clock out manually, paid hours automatically end with one of the following:

  • Completion of the last job of the day

  • Completion of a paid non-job event at the end of the day

Note: Technicians cannot clock into events scheduled for future dates.

Clock in or clock out technicians from the Dispatch Board.

To clock a technician in or out, click the technician’s profile picture on the Dispatch Board. Then, select Clock In/Out.

Technicians can use timesheet codes when they clock in or clock out in ServiceTitan Mobile.

You can set up timesheet codes for technicians to use when they clock in or clock out in ServiceTitan Mobile. The technician can do a general clock in, or the technician can tap Events to see available timesheet codes. You can even set up timesheet codes to be available when the technician has a non-job event, if you want technicians to clock in and out of scheduled non-job events.

Control whether or not technicians accrue paid hours when they do a general clock in.
  • If your account is set up for paid idle time: Technicians accrue paid hours whenever they do a general clock in.

  • If your account is set for unpaid idle time, technicians do not accrue paid hours unless they use a paid timesheet code to clock in.

Note: No matter what, whether idle time is set as paid or unpaid, technicians cannot do a general clock in as their first paid event of the day.

If technicians need to get paid before they arrive at their first job of the day, they must clock in with a paid timesheet code or the office must schedule the technician for a paid non-job event.

This prevents technicians from clocking in for unauthorized paid hours in the morning.

However, if you have Enable Simple Clock I/O selected on the Clock I/O timesheet code, the technician are paid for all time between clocking in and clocking out, regardless of what activities are performed.

Choose how the technician is paid for the first drive of the day.

You can set the first drive of the day as always paid or you can pay for the first drive only if the technician has already started working for the day. See Payroll settings for more information on first drive settings.

Deduct a technician’s commute time.

See deduct a technician's commute time from the first drive of the day, or from the drive home. You can from any kind of paid drive time. These features allow you to accurately pay technicians for their commute time according to your state’s payroll standards.

Edit technician timesheets

If a technician has not been clocked in or clocked out correctly, you can edit non-job timesheets.

Confirm idle time settings

Contact your success or implementation manager to enable Technician Clock I/O for your account. Before turning on Technician Clock I/O, talk to your success or implementation manager about your idle time settings.

Idle time settings determine how Technician Clock I/O impacts paid hours.

Set up timesheet codes for the drive home, parts run, or any other purpose

Set up Timesheet codes to set up non-job timesheet events. Click How to set up Technician Clock I/O out for the drive home, a parts run if you want step-by-step instructions on how to set up timesheet codes for the drive home or a parts run.

Note: When you set up timesheet codes, the Technician Visibility setting lets you control whether the timesheet code is visible to technicians in ServiceTitan Mobile.

Enable permissions for Technician Clock I/O

You can enable permissions for an individual technician or by company role.

  • To allow employees to clock technicians in and out from the Dispatch Board, enable Allow Tech Clock In And Clock Out On Dispatch.

  • To allow technicians to clock in and out themselves, enable Mobile Clock In And Clock Out.
