Set up and use Bin TrackingLast updated on 09/13/2022

The Bin Tracking workflow helps you organize items in your trucks and warehouses to improve inventory management. You can process inventory location activities more efficiently, resulting in faster turnaround times, improved satisfaction, and lower inventory write-offs. Plus you will know exactly where your inventory is at any point in time.


Set up bin tracking

Setting up bin tracking means you can place items in the correct locations and pick items from the correct locations.

To use the Bin Tracking workflow, enable the bin tracking option.

Note: Once bin tracking is enabled, you can’t turn it off.

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Settings icon-settings.png.

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory > Configurations.

  3. In the Inventory Configuration section that opens, click the Inventory tab.

  4. Select Enable Bin Tracking.

  5. When you're finished, click Save.


Add bin locations to templates

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Settings .

  2. From the side menu, select Inventory > Templates. The Templates section opens.

  3. Select the template you want to add a bin location to.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. In the Stock Item table under the Bin Locations column, enter the bin location you want.

  6. When you’re finished, click Save.


View bin locations for trucks and warehouses

You can view the bin location for all of the items on your truck or in your warehouses that have a bin location assigned.

  1. Go to the navigation bar and click Inventory Inventory-icon.

  2. From the side menu, select Overview > Inventory Locations.

  3. Select the Trucks or Warehouses tab.

  4. Select the item you want to view the bin locations for. You can view bin location in the Item List table under the Bin Location column.

    Note: You can also download the item list for the inventory location as a PDF or XLS file which has the bin location of the items listed.


Use bin locations

  • Use bin tracking to receive items and place them in the correct bin locations. Download the purchase order (PO) and use the bin locations displayed on the PO to do so. For more on downloading POs, see Download purchase orders.

  • Download a transfer to view the bin location an item needs to be picked up from and dropped off to. For more on downloading transfers, see Inventory transfers overview.

  • Create a custom report using the Inventory Line Item report template, and select the Bin Location column. Your report displays bin locations. For more details on running reports, see Edit custom reports.
