# Why are discounts added as a charge on invoices and estimates in ServiceTitan?

## Problem

When adding a discount to an estimate or invoice, it shows as a negative amount. However, it appears as an extra charge instead of reducing the total amount.

## Solution

Ensure discount values reduce the total amount of invoices and estimates, as intended.

### Set discount values to positive numbers

1. Go to the navigation bar and click **Settings ![A simple icon representing a settings gear. ](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/icon-gnav-settings-inactive.png)**.
2. In the side panel, click **Discounts & Fees**.
3. Find the discount that is causing the issue and click **Edit** ![](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/icon-edit.png). It might be set up with a negative value.
4. Change the discount value from negative to positive. For instance, if it is "-110", change it to "110".
5. When finished, click **Save**.
6. Test the discount on an invoice or estimate to ensure it now subtracts from the total amount, not adds to it.
7. If you have multiple discounts set up incorrectly, repeat steps 2 to 5 for each one.
