Problem

Non-managed technicians cannot add items to invoices or estimates. They need to be managed technicians to perform this action.

Solution

Difference between Managed vs Non-managed technicians

Understand that non-managed technicians have restrictions, including not being able to add items to invoices and estimates directly. For more, see Managed technicians and non-managed technicians.

Make sure Non-managed technician is included in payroll

  1. To pay non-managed technicians for their work, you must use payroll adjustments. First, ensure they are included in payroll.

  2. Go to the main navigation bar and click Settings .

  3. In side side panel, click People > Technicians.

  4. Click Edit next to the technician you want to update.

  5. On the Edit Technician screen that opens, click the Payroll tab.

  6. Make sure the Include in Payroll feature is turned on. Click the checkbox if it isn't, then click Save Changes.

Create a payroll adjustment from the Payroll Dashboard

  1. Click on your profile icon, then click Payroll.

  2. Use the filters to locate the payroll period you want to update.

  3. Click View Actions in the Action column for the technician whose payroll you want to adjust.

  4. Next to Payroll Adjustments, click Create.

  5. On the Create Payroll Adjustment window that opens, under Posted On, click the Calendar and select the date you want the adjustment to post. You must enter a date within the payroll period you're reviewing. If the posted on date has already been processed for payroll, the adjustment won't be recognized.

  6. In the Adjustment Amount field, enter the amount of the adjustment.

  7. If you want to attach the adjustment to a job invoice, enter the invoice number in the Invoice field. Attaching an adjustment to a job invoice in which the adjustment was earned helps keep the job costing accurate and provides the customer with the most accurate margin for the job.

  8. Select the Type of adjustment you want to create. For more on types of adjustments, see Create a payroll adjustment.

  9. When you're finished, click Create

  10. On the Payroll Detail screen for the technician, click Update Now. This will update the adjustment to the Payroll Dashboard.

You can also create a payroll adjustment on an invoice. For more, see Create payroll adjustments.

By following these steps, you can ensure that non-managed technicians receive performance pay for their work, even though they cannot add their codes directly to invoices.
