Overview
By default, your Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks Online will not show account numbers. To turn on account numbers, use the following instructions.

Things to know
The account numbers you choose will affect how accounts are listed in your Chart of Accounts.
Accounts are listed numerically (or alphabetically if account numbers are not used).

How to turn on account number viewing
Click the Gear icon > Company Settings.
Select Advanced > Chart of Accounts > Edit Icon.
Check Enable Account Numbers and Use Account Number. This setting provides all users with the ability to view and sort accounts numerically.
Click Save and then click Done.
How to set account numbers
Click the Gear icon > Chart of Accounts.
Click the Edit Icon.
Enter a unique number for each account in the number column. This number can be up to 7 digits long.
Click Save.
