# QBO Onboarding Step 2: Set up GL accounts in QuickBooks Online

## Overview

After [setting up QuickBooks Online integration in ServiceTitan](/v1/docs/qbo-onboarding-step-1-set-up-quickbooks-online-integration), set up QuickBooks properly to integrate with ServiceTitan to make sure that the data transferred between both platforms is accurate and reliable. Proper setup will also prevent export errors due to account names not matching and will help you map your accounts faster when you add new payment types or Pricebook items.

## Best practices

It is recommended that you set up your General Ledger Accounts in [Set up sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop](https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/set-sales-taxes/set-sales-tax-quickbooks-desktop/L4Uh8IMw2_US_en_US#:~:text=%20Set%20up%20sales%20tax%20in%20QuickBooks%20Desktop,Cash).%20Take%20into%20account%20your%20company%E2%80%99s...%20More).

This will allow you to select from these accounts (via a drop-down menu) when you map items to a QuickBooks account.

You will need to map items such as your Pricebook services and your payment types to a QuickBooks account.

### **Benefits of setting up General Ledger Accounts in ServiceTitan**

By creating your accounts in ServiceTitan, you will prevent exporting errors due to misspelling account names. You will also be able to map your accounts faster when you add new payment types or Pricebook services.

### New users of QuickBooks Online

Create GL accounts in QuickBooks Online for integration with ServiceTitan.

### **Existing users of QuickBooks Online**

Make sure the GL account names in QuickBooks Online match exactly the GL account names in ServiceTitan. This will prevent export errors due to account names not matching.

## Adding your General Ledger Accounts

1. Open QuickBooks and ServiceTitan.
2. In QuickBooks, open your *Chart of Accounts* (**Lists**> **Chart of Accounts**).
3. In ServiceTitan, go to **Settings** > **Operations**> **General Ledger Accounts**.
4. Click **Add Account**. You will be copying the information from QuickBooks into ServiceTitan.
5. You will now be able to add:
  - **Name**. Copy/paste the name of the account. This should not include the account number unless you have included that in the QuickBooks **NAME**field.
  - **Number**[Optional]. Copy/paste the account number associated with the account in QuickBooks. If you cannot see the account numbers in your *Chart of Accounts*, right-click the title of any column and select *Customize Columns*. Add the **ACCNT. #** column and click **OK**.
6. Select the appropriate account type.
7. After you select the account type, a **Subtype**field will appear. Select the appropriate subtype.
8. Click **Save**.

### Sales tax

If you are also calculating sales tax, create an *ST Sales Tax Payable*account in QuickBooks Online as an *Other Current Liabilities* account and a service item for *ServiceTitan Sales Tax.*

## Next step: Add account numbers in QuickBooks Online

By default, your *Chart of Accounts*in QuickBooks Online will not show account numbers. If you want to turn on account numbers in QuickBooks, see [QBO Onboarding Step 3: Add account numbers in QuickBooks Online](/v1/docs/qbo-onboarding-step-3-add-account-numbers-in-qbo).

Otherwise, the next step is to create chargeable materials in QuickBooks Online. For more, see [QBO Onboarding Step 4: Create chargeable materials in QuickBooks Online](/v1/docs/qbo-onboarding-step-4-create-chargeable-materials-in-qbo).
