# QBD Onboarding Step 3: Map pricebook items to a QuickBooks general ledger account

## Overview

After [creating a QuickBooks Desktop backup file](/v1/docs/qbd-onboarding-step-2-create-quickbooks-desktop-backup-file), map your pricebook items to GL accounts. Mapping your pricebook items to GL accounts is important for generating financial reports that show accurate financial performance of the business. These articles provide instructions on how to map your pricebook items to the corresponding GL accounts in QuickBooks Desktop.

## Map pricebook items to a QuickBooks general ledger account

1. Go to the navigation bar and click **Pricebook**.
2. In the side menu, select the **Services**, **Equipment**, or **Material**for the item you want to map. The item table opens.
3. In the *General Ledger Account* field, add the income account associated with the item. You should enter only the name of the QuickBooks income account. You do not need to include the account number.

4. When you're done, click **Save**.

## Map multiple Pricebook items using the Pricebook Excel Template

1. [Export your pricebook](/v1/docs/import-and-export-your-pricebook) (**Settings** > **Import / Export Data**).
2. Open the exported file in a spreadsheet application.
3. Enter the sub-account name in the Account column. Enter the name in this format: *Parent Account Name:Sub-account Name*. For example, if map a service item to a Sales sub-account called *HVAC*, enter **Sales:HVAC** in the account field.
4. When you’re done, save the spreadsheet file and [import it](/v1/docs/import-and-export-your-pricebook) back into (**Settings** > **Import / Export Data**).
