# Manage custom dashboard filters

## Overview

With custom filters, you can set filters for multiple custom dashboard modules at once, simplifying how you filter your dashboard metrics. Custom filters also centrally control individual report filters, which will appear greyed out when custom filters are active.

5. Repeat the previous two steps for any other custom filters or, if you’re finished, click **Save**.
6. In the dashboard editor, click **Save**.

## Create a custom filter

If you have dashboard modules that you want to filter separately, you can create a custom filter. For example, if you have two modules that use *Job Date* filters, you can create a single custom filter that applies to both modules.

> **Note:** A module filter type can only be used with one custom filter at a time. For example, if you want to create a custom filter that shows weekly numbers for some modules, deselect the modules you want to use for that filter from the Dates filter. Then, create a new filter for those modules. You can set default filter values for the new filter to show metrics for the past seven days.

> **Note:** When custom filters are active, individual report filters will appear greyed out since they are controlled from this central location. If you hover over greyed-out filters on individual reports, you'll see a message indicating they are controlled by the Custom Filter at the top of the dashboard.

When you open a custom dashboard, by default, it filters for all business units for the current day. You can edit the default values for custom filters. For example, you can set a custom filter to show a week’s worth of KPIs while another filter shows KPIs for today’s date.
