Things to know
You can install and configure any template ServiceTitan makes available. Building a fully custom automation from scratch is not available yet.
You need to configure a template from start to finish in one sitting. Saving a partial configuration to finish later isn't available yet.
Installing a template never turns it on automatically — it always starts off until you explicitly enable it.
You can test a template in a sandbox environment before enabling it in production, if your account supports it.
Best practices
Preview a template before installing it so you know what data it needs up front.
Review the plain-language description of each field before entering a value — templates only ask for what that specific template needs.
Check an automation's run history soon after enabling it to confirm it's behaving as expected.
Step 1: Preview a template
Navigate to the Automations tab from the navigation bar.
Note: Not every automation on this page opens the setup flow described here. Some open their own settings page instead — that's expected, and you'll manage that automation there.
Find a template you're interested in and click Try Now to open its preview.

Review its trigger, conditions, and action in plain language, along with what data it needs to function.
Note: Previewing a template makes no changes to your account.

Step 2: Configure and enable a template
From the template's preview, click Configure.

Fill in only the fields shown — each template only asks for what it needs.
Note: You will need to configure all required fields in one sitting — you can't save a partial configuration and return to it later.
For fields that reference your own ServiceTitan data (like a business unit or technician role), choose from the dropdown rather than typing a value.
Note: Inline validation flags anything entered incorrectly before you can move on.
When finished, click Activate.

You'll see confirmation that the automation is live.
Note: It only acts on new trigger events going forward — not on anything that happened before you turned it on.
Step 3: Disable an automation
To pause an automation without losing its setup, use the deactivate action. You can re-activate it later without reconfiguring it from scratch.

Step 4: View and diagnose run history
Navigate to the Runs tab in an installed automation.

Review each run's timestamp, trigger event, and status (success or failure).

For a failed run, open its detail to see, in plain language, which part — the trigger, a condition, or the action — failed and why.
To check overall health without opening individual runs, review the automation's aggregate performance on the right panel (success rate and run volume).
