# How to Resolve the 'Sell the estimate to your customer before you begin the application for payment' Error

## Problem

When trying to add an Application for Payment to a project in ServiceTitan, you may receive the error message "Sell the estimate to your customer before you begin the application for payment." This error occurs when the estimate has been booked into a job.

## Solution

1. Go to the Project page and create a new estimate. It must be a Project estimate.
2. Sell the new estimate.
3. Click the **Actions** dropdown and select *Add an application for payment*.
4. Fill out the Application for Payment using the new estimate.
5. For the old estimate/invoice that caused the error, leave it as is and zero out any prices.
6. Do not book the estimate into a job until after the Application for Payment has been completed.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** The system should not allow you to book the estimate into a job once it has been marked as sold and an application for payment has been applied.
