# How can I properly optimize my technicians’ routes so they leave on time?

## Problem

I want to ensure my technicians leave their homes on time for their first job.

## Solution

To properly optimize your technicians' routes so they leave on time, make sure to consider their departure from home:

1. **Adjust shift start time:** Make sure your technician shifts start at the time you want your technicians to leave their home. If you have a large number of shifts you need to edit, you can bulk delete delete them and create new ones with the correct start time. For more, see the [Delete multiple shifts](/v1/docs/use-technician-shifts#delete-multiple-shifts) section of [Use technician shifts.](/v1/docs/use-technician-shifts)
2. **Optimize route:** Make sure all your technician addresses and service location addresses are validated in ServiceTitan so that Optimize Technician Route can work properly. For more, see the [Set up Optimize Technician Route](/v1/docs/use-optimize-technician-route#set-up-optimize-technician-route) section of [Use Optimize Technician Route](/v1/docs/use-optimize-technician-route).

These adjustments ensure that Technician Shifts and Optimize Technician Route accounts for your technician's commute from home, aligning with your operational needs.
