Commercial Personalization Platform - FAQ

Overview

ServiceTitan can match the words and pictures you see to the kind of work your business does. If you do commercial work, you can see commercial words. For example, you can see Customer instead of Homeowner. You can also see pictures and a menu built for commercial teams.

This article answers common questions about the commercial experience.

 Who uses this feature

  • An administrator sets this up for the whole account. Everyone on the team sees the result.

  • Primarily benefits Commercial Service business types

  • Applies to all trades

Feature configuration

  • This feature is currently in Private Preview and available for specific accounts. It is subject to change.

What changes in ServiceTitan?

Four things can change:

  • Words: Labels across ServiceTitan use commercial words. For example, Homeowner becomes Customer.

  • Pictures: Icons and images match your trade and the kind of work you do.

  • Menus: You can pick a menu built for the way commercial teams work.

  • Documents: Key documents, like your Invoice template, use commercial words.

Atlas uses your words too when it answers you.

Does this change how ServiceTitan works?

No. It only changes what things are called and how they look.

Your work, your records, and your data stay the same. Nothing moves. Nothing is deleted. Nothing is renamed in your data. A customer is the same record they were when the label said Homeowner.

The steps you take to book, schedule, and finish work do not change. What each person can and cannot see does not change either.

Who can set this up?

An administrator on your team. If you are not sure who that is, check with whoever manages your ServiceTitan settings.

Where do I pick my experience?

  1. Go to the top toolbar and click Settings .

  2. In the side panel, click Your Account > Company Profile.

  3. Find the setting you want to change and click Edit next to it.
ServiceTitan account details for business focus and trade terminology settings.

  4. Make your picks, then click Save.

  5. When finished, click Save Changes.

Each setting has its own Edit button and its own window, so you can change one without touching the others.

When you pick an option under Terminology & Navigation, a preview of the menu appears next to it. Look at the preview before you save.

What do these settings do?

Setting

What it does

For commercial accounts

Business Focus

Who you serve and the type of work you take on. Sets your starting words and menu, your document templates, and your KPIs, which are the numbers on your dashboards. It also shapes what Atlas suggests.

Select Commercial Service. Add others too if you do that work.

Trade

Every trade your business covers. Sets your pictures and your document templates.

Search and add every trade your business covers.

Terminology & Navigation

The words and main menu that everyone on your team sees.

Select Commercial.

Terminology & Navigation also lists Residential and Residential Roofing as options for accounts that need them. This FAQ covers only the Commercial option.

We do both residential and commercial work. What do we get?

Whichever one you pick. Plenty of businesses do both kinds of work, so ServiceTitan plans for this.

You can pick more than one Business Focus and more than one Trade. That lets you show that you do both. But Terminology & Navigation is one pick for the whole account. So you choose the one set of words your team uses.

There is no mixed set of words. Most teams that do both kinds of work still talk about it one way. Picking the way your team already talks is usually the best choice.

Can we change our mind later?

Yes. An administrator can change these settings at any time.

Go back to Settings > Your Account > Company Profile, click Edit next to the setting you want to change, and save your new pick.

Your work, your records, and your data are not affected by switching. Nothing you have already done changes.

Does my pick affect everyone on my team?

Yes. Your Terminology & Navigation pick applies to every person in your account. That is why ServiceTitan asks you to confirm before you save.

Check the menu preview before you save, so you know what you are getting. Pick a calm week to make the change. Try not to do it during your busiest season.

How do I help my team get used to it?

  • Tell your team before you make the change.

  • Share the word list below so people can look things up.

  • Remind them that only the labels and pictures change. Every button is in the same place and does the same thing.

  • Give it a few days. Most teams find the new words match how they already talk.

Which words change?

Three terms change for commercial accounts right now:

Residential word

Commercial word

Pricebook

Items & Pricing

Homeowner

Customer

Inventory

Procurement

This is the current, confirmed list. Other terms are not changing at this time. This page will be updated if that changes.

What happens to my reports and saved views?

Your reports and saved views remain the same. Only the terminology in the reports changes.

Does this change the Mobile App?

The Field Mobile App has its own setting. Each Technician picks it in Menu > Settings. For more, see Show Residential or Commercial terms in the ServiceTitan Field Mobile App.

Will help articles and Academy courses use my words?

ServiceTitan is updating Knowledge Base articles and Academy courses so they match the words in your account.

This is ongoing work, not a one time switch. Content is being updated in batches, and you will keep seeing more of it change over time. The most used articles and academy courses come first.

Can I make up my own words or build my own menu?

No. You pick from sets that ServiceTitan has already built. You cannot write your own labels or design your own menu at this time.

Does this change my data or the other apps I connect to ServiceTitan?

Not finalized yet. Check back here, or ask your Customer Success Manager for the latest before you switch if this matters to your team.

Can different locations or business units use different words?

No. Your pick applies to your whole account.

Who do I ask for help?

Ask the account administrator on your team about your account settings. Or talk to your Customer Success Manager about which experience fits your business.
