# Change the customer on an existing location record

## Overview

If a location record has been attached to the wrong customer record, change the customer for that location to keep your records accurate in ServiceTitan. For customers who have relocated, see[Manage customer relocation](/v1/docs/manage-customer-relocation).

###

#### Who uses this feature

- Office employees
- Applies to all business types
- Applies to all trades

## Things to know

- When you create a new location record in ServiceTitan, be sure to add it to the correct customer record, if one already exists. If the location is for a customer not already in ServiceTitan, add the location by [creating a new customer record](/v1/docs/create-a-customer-record).
- ServiceTitan identifies customers by the phone number they're using when they call in. If ServiceTitan doesn't automatically detect a customer's name when they call, search to make sure they aren't already in the system under a different phone number. This helps you avoid accidentally creating a duplicate record. For more, see the [Find Customer and Location Records](/v1/docs/customer-and-location-records-overview#find-customer-and-location-records) section of [Customer and Location Records overview](/v1/docs/customer-and-location-records-overview).
- After you change the customer on an existing location record, the history of previous invoices and transactions will still show as paid by the previous customer.

## Change a customer

To change the customer on an existing location record:

1. Open the location record.

> [!TIP]
> **Tip:** You can access the location record by:
>
> - Clicking the location from the customer record.
> - [Searching](/v1/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan) for the location record.
> - Clicking the name of the **Service Location** on the Appointment or Job screen.
2. Click **Edit ![](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/change-the-customer-on-an-existing-location-record-image-57yu9oic.png)** next to the name of the record. ![User interface displaying location details](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/change-the-customer-on-an-existing-location-record-image-sfdsn194.png)
3. On the *Edit Location* screen that opens, click the **Customer** dropdown.
4. Search for and select the customer. ![Editing location details](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/change-the-customer-on-an-existing-location-record-image-igbtsk9n.png)

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** If the correct name doesn't appear in the dropdown, check the spelling and try again. If you still can't find the name, then that customer doesn't have an existing record in ServiceTitan. In that case, [add them as a new customer](/v1/docs/create-a-customer-record) then complete the steps to change the customer associated with the existing location record.
5. Enter the updated customer's name in the **Location Name** field.
6. When finished, click **Save**.

The location record is now associated with the customer record you chose from the dropdown.
