# Can the assign technician field be required on the call booking screen

## Problem

You cannot make the default assign technician field required on the call booking screen.

## Solution

### Create a required Custom Field on the Calls screen

1. Go to the top toolbar and click **Settings ![A simple icon representing a settings gear. ](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/icon-gnav-settings-inactive.png)**.
2. Select **Operations** from the list.
3. Select **Custom Fields**.
4. Create a new custom field. Assign the custom field to the Job Record > Call Screen. Name the custom field to reflect the Technician assignment. For example, "Technician Name:" or "Technician Assigned".
5. Set the custom field as a required field.
6. Save your changes.

By following these steps, you create a mandatory field for technician assignment on the call booking screen. This approach ensures that a technician must be assigned for every job booked.
