# Add notes, media, and file attachments in ServiceTitan

## Overview

Notes, media, and files can be added to customer and location records, jobs, projects, and forms in ServiceTitan. This helps your office facilitate communication, decision-making, and workflow efficiency.

#### Feature configuration

- The *Edit note* permission is required to use this feature. Please contact the account administrator on your team.

## Things to know

- Supported media and file types:
  - **Images:** jpg, jpeg, gif, png, webp, 3gp, rup, dng, heic, heif, tif, tiff, jfif
  - **Videos:** mov, mp4, avi

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** The AVI format is supported only when added from ServiceTitan Mobile.
  - **Documents:** doc, xls, docx, xlsx, ppt, pptx
  - **Other:** mp3, htm, html, vcf, txt, xml, csv, smil, pdf
- If a customer has an active job and sends a photo or video through [chat](/v1/docs/use-chat), the media is automatically added to the job as an attachment in the *Files* tab.
- If media was deleted by accident, we recommend opening the job in [ServiceTitan Next](/v1/docs/use-servicetitan-next) to see if it can be recovered there. If the media isn't in Next, please contact [Technical Support](https://go.servicetitan.com/#/ask).
- Notes added from the Accounting section only appear within the Accounting section. These notes do not appear in the customer, location, job, and project records.

## Add a note

### Add a note to a customer or location record

1. [Search for](/v1/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan) and open the customer or location record.
2. Go to the *Notes* section and click **Add Note**.
3. Enter your note.
4. When finished, click **Add Note**.

> [!TIP]
> **Tip:** You can select **Pin Note** to have it always be at the top of the *Notes* section in the customer or location record. You can also select **Add note to location page** or **Add note to customer page** to duplicate it on the respective location or customer record.

### Add a note to a job

1. [Search for](/v1/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan) and open the job record.
2. Go to the *History* section and click **Leave a note...**
3. Enter your note.
4. When finished, click **Save**.

> **Tip:** You can select **Pin this note to the top** to have it always be at the top of the *Notes* tab in the job record.

### Add a note to a project

1. [Search for](/v1/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan) and open the project.
2. In the side menu, click **History**.
3. Click **Leave a note...**
4. Enter your note.
5. When finished, click **Save**.

### Add a note to a form

Technicians can add notes to a form while completing it in ServiceTitan Mobile. ## Edit or delete a note

### Edit or delete a note in a customer or location record

1. Search for and open the customer or location record.
2. Go to the *Notes* section and find the note you want to edit or delete.
3. ### Edit or delete a note in a job record

1. Search for and open the job record.
2. Go to the *History* section, click the **Notes** tab, and find the note you want to edit or delete.
3. ### Edit or delete a note in a project

1. Search for and open the project.
2. In the side menu, click **History**.
3. Click the **Notes** tab and find the note you want to edit or delete.
4. ## Add media or a file attachment

> **Note:** When you add a media or file attachment, make sure to attach a supported media or file type. Otherwise, your attachment won't be uploaded. For a list of supported media and file types, see the [Things to know](/v1/docs/add-notes-pictures-to-job#things-to-know-media) section. For more information about submitting a form, see [Create a form in ServiceTitan](/v1/docs/create-a-form-in-servicetitan).

### Add media or a file to a customer or location record

To add media:

1. [Search for](/v1/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan) and open the customer or location record.

3. Find the media you want to attach to the record, select it, and then click **Open**.

To add a file:

1. [Search for](/v1/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan) and open the customer or location record.
2. 3. Find the file you want to attach to the record, select it, and then click **Open**.

### Add media or a file to a job

2. 3. Find the file you want to attach to the job, select it, then click **Open**.

### Add media or a file to a project

2. In the side menu, click **Documents**.

4. Find the media or file you want to attach to the project, select it, then click **Open**.

#### How does a technician indicate the progress they've made on each appointment?

When technicians are working on a job at an appointment, they can leave notes regarding the work they've completed or the progress they've made. Notes are attached to the job record and are visible from the office.
